I have been a fan of actor Tim Roth ever since I saw him as “Mr. Orange” in the 1992 film Reservoir Dogs. I have been following his career and enjoying his work ever since. I was recently pleased to see that he has made the leap to episodic television in the Fox Five program “Lie To Me.” Roth plays Dr. Cal Lightman, who is an expert at reading people’s facial expressions and body language. He uses his skill to aid law enforcement agencies in solving crimes. Here are some fun and interesting facts about the very talented actor, Tim Roth.
A Bright And Shining Star Is Born. Timothy Simon Smith arrived in this world on May 14, 1961 to parents Anne and Ernie in Dulwich, London. Ernie Smith made the decision to change the family’s surname to Roth after World War II. He was concerned about traveling to countries that had hostile feelings toward the British. Anne was a painter, who had a deep appreciation for the arts and instilled that into her son. The Roths surely had no hint of the worldwide fame their son would ultimately achieve on that May day so many years ago.
Early Passion Of Tim Roth. Prior to trying his hand at acting Tim Roth had a passion for sculpting, surely inspired by his mother’s love of art and self expression. He studied at the famous London’s Camberwell School Of Art. Sculpting would certainly offer the actor a wonderful stress relief from the pressures of Hollywood, although it is not widely known whether Tim continues to enjoy this art form today on any level.
Favorite Of Quentin Tarantino. Much like Woody Allen, director Quentin Tarantino enjoys using the same actors in all of his films. Tim Roth has appeared in the Tarantino productions “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Four Rooms.” Fans can certainly look forward to seeing the actor in a future Quentin Tarantino film.
Where You May Have Seen Him Before. In addition to Tarantino’s films, Tim Roth has had roles in the major motion pictures “Rob Roy,” “Everyone Says I Love You,” “Gridlock’d,” “Planet Of The Apes,” “Invincible” and “The Incredible Hulk.” Roth’s career has followed no particular formula or predictable pattern and simply chooses roles that speak to him and offer him a challenge and an opportunity to further develop his craft.
Personal Life. When not appearing on the big and small screens, Tim Roth has plenty to keep him busy at home. He is the proud father of three sons, Jack, Timothy and Cormac and is a devoted parent. He married his lovely wife, Lori Baker in 1993 and prefers the quiet home life with family rather than the nightclubs and parties of Hollywood. With such a talented grandmother and father, the world will have to wait and see whether Roth’s sons will follow in the family footsteps and make their life’s work in the arts and entertainment field.
Smartly positioned behind “American Idol,” “Lie To Me” has all the makings of a television hit. Fans like me can now enjoy the work of Tim Roth on a weekly basis instead of waiting for his next movie to hit the theaters or rental stores.
