So you have almost everything set for your New Year’s Eve party except for some New Year’s Party games. You can’t have your guests milling around commenting on how bored they are, right? What do you do then? How about playing one or more of the following games?
Who’s Resolution is This? This is an easy game to play because hardly any setup is required. You just need some paper and something to write with. Have everyone write down five New Year’s resolutions that they plan to undertake for the new year. Then throw them into a hat or bag. At this point you can split the crowd into teams or people can play individually. Whichever way you play, the host picks one sheet out and reads it. The goal is to guess who’s resolution is on the paper. You can hand out coins or poker chips to whoever gets it right. The team or player with the most tokens wins!
Prediction is a game that is also easy to play. It is very similar to Who’s Resolution is This except with predictions. Predictions need to be about someone else in the group and can be serious or funny, but you should tell everyone if it will be a humorous or serious game upfront so someone doesn’t get embarrassed with a prediction. Sample predictions could be, “Mike will stop smoking by the summer” or “John’s feet will stop smelling this year.”
Balloon or Ball Volley is a popular New Year’s party game that can be played by adults or children if you have a mix in your guests. This game also works best if you have a large room to do this in. Players are paired up however you wish. Its fun to team up by male/female or adult/child depending on who your guests are. From start to finish the teams pass a balloon or ball between them as they head to the finish line. The balloon or ball cannot touch the ground and must be in the air the entire time. It you are using a ball, the ball cannot be cupped or caught. The first one across the finish line is the winner.
Waiting Room is for adults only and you’ll see why in a minute. Place two chairs in the middle of the room and have to players sit, one male and one female. The goal is to get them off the chairs without touching them. Anything goes, but you only have five minutes. Whoever is able to get one of them off the chair wins, otherwise the two players win.
Popular Group Games with a Drinking Twist. You can make popular group game a New Year’s party game…if you add drinking to the mix. For example, if you play Twister, everyone drinks when the color green is spun or everyone drinks when a female is disqualified. Other games you can modify: Scattegories, Catch Phrase, and Uno.
Lastly, make sure you have prizes on hand. The prizes don’t have to be anything spectacular. Little things will work, especially if you have a lot of games you want to play. Just keep the games moving and everyone will have a good time this New Year’s.
