George Anthony, grandfather of murdered toddler Caylee Anthony, was taken into custody by Daytona Beach police and brought to the Halifax Medical Center for evaluation. Anthony, 57, was found in a motel room after his family had reported him missing on Thursday. He had reportedly been sending text messages threatening to harm himself.
George Anthony, Cindy Anthony, Casey Anthony and the Mysterious Murder of Caylee Anthony
The heart-wrenching disappearance and murder of Caylee Anthony, a beautiful and innocent child, has attracted a tremendous amount of worldwide media attention. The case has been covered regularly and thoroughly by Greta Van Susteren, Nancy Grace, Geraldo Rivera and others. From the very beginning of the case, suspicion was cast on Casey Anthony, Caylee’s 22-year-old mother. Perhaps the fact that she did not report her daughter missing for an entire month after her disappearance had something to do with it.
Tragically, any hope that Caylee Anthony would be found alive was shattered when, on December 19, 2008, the Orange Country Medical Examiner confirmed that the human remains found close to the home of the Anthony family were those of Caylee.
Cindy and George Anthony Defend Casey Anthony
From the moment Casey Anthony became a suspect in the murder of Caylee Anthony, her parents, Cindy and George Anthony, have defended her innocence. Time and again, George Anthony has proclaimed his daughter’s innocence, emphatically insisting that she had nothing to do with the disappearance and murder of Caylee. This despite the fact that a number of mental health professionals have gone on record saying that Casey Anthony exhibits the classic signs of a sociopath.
“The disorder is recognizable by a lack of concern for others, as evidenced by her behavior after Caylee disappeared. She did not call 911 to report her daughter missing; that task was left to her mother, weeks after Caylee disappeared. While her daughter was missing, Casey was out “clubbing”, buying lingerie and other sundry items for herself from Target, and cooking dinner for her boyfriend and his roommates,” writes Dr. Julian Mitchell on Blogcritics.
Dr. Mitchell notes that sociopaths consider friends, acquaintances and family members to be expendable. A sociopath moves on once others have been “bled dry.” One has to question whether George Anthony’s desperate behavior reflects an awareness of his daughter’s true colors. An awareness that he can no longer deny.
