Grand Theft Auto Vice City is probably one of the best games that have been released along with the rest of the Grand Theft Auto games. It is developed by Rockstar Games and has been released in multiple platforms such as the PC, Microsoft XBOX, and the Playstation 2.
You play as Tommy Vercetti who works for a mafia and you get to roam Vice City completing missions. These missions would run you through the different gangs in Vice City and establish yourself as the top dog. Sounds simple right? But there are actually a lot of things to do in Grand Theft Auto Vice City. To start off, these missions vary from driving/racing, shooting, decimating a building, controlling ships and helicopters, and much more. Those are just the main missions.
Probably the best aspect of the game is the free-roam environment. There are people walking on the streets and cars pass by. You can interact with them like punch them or shoot them or even give some of them a ride. There are a lot of cars you can drive and you can also ride on bikes, fire trucks, ambulances, race cars, even helicopters and lots more. You can go to the beach or go inside some of the buildings. You can even buy some properties and collect money from a few of them. You can deliver pizza, work as a taxi cab driver, visit the mall and the list goes on.
Along with the free-roaming environment are the different mini-missions that you can do. You can collect hidden objects, collect cars, beat time trials in a dirt bike, blow up cars and assassinate some people. You have different weapons to choose from as well, from a simple knife to a rocket launcher.
Even though there are lots of things to do in GTA Vice City, the story is still intact and you won’t lose sight of your progress in the story. You have the mini-map that will guide you in your missions. You’ll see clearly which missions you need to do in order to move along with the story.
It takes around an hour or so to get used to the controls. The controls would change while you’re walking, driving a car, using remote controlled vehicles, and piloting a helicopter or a place. The controls are responsive and you won’t have any problems mastering it. The game isn’t that difficult though but you will find lots of very challenging missions in the game and you may have to repeat some of them.
The game’s graphics and audio is top notch. Even with the huge environment, the surroundings are lush and colorful and the objects are well-designed and very detailed. This holds true with the city itself. The buildings and important locations are conveniently placed all over the map. Wait until you see the city while riding a helicopter. As for the sounds, the effects are great and the voiceovers are excellent. The real actor’s voices match the graphics almost perfectly. You can also switch to different radio stations while driving or piloting. You can listen to classical, rock, pop, and even hear commercials. Did I mention that almost all of the songs are real songs? You can even use your own music.
One of the issues that surround the game (as well as most of the games in the series) is violence. It does involve killing people, running over them or even shoot them point blank. There are lots of explosions and even blood. This game is really not recommended for kids.
All in all, this game is a classic and will go down as one of the best games in its class. You’ll spend hours just to finish the game and it could take you days to achieve 100% completion. I’ve played it and finished it twice or so and I still like this game. I would recommend that you try it out. Just remember, this game is not meant to be played by kids. Have fun!
