Recently, my 6th daughter turned 8 and after throwing party after party for the last 17 years, especially with this being our 6th daughter in a row, we were a bit stumped at what type of party we should put together for her. Then we had a brainstorm! How about a Salon/Make-over type party with all the trimmings? That was the end of our quandry, it was decided. We immediately started planning our Salon set up in our basement, then went out to the local dollar store to buy all of the goodies and supplies that we needed. The kids all joined me and this was a great way to get the excitement building for this event.
The Waiting Room- We set up a reception and waiting area equipped with a chalk board that greeted the clients with decorative wording that spelled out “Welcome to Natalia’s Salon”, which is my birthday daughter’s name. We included crayons and coloring pages at a play table for the kids, as well as magazines for adults and teens alike. Our guests sat there first after they were greeted by our reception lady who was one of my older daughters. She had a blast doing that.
The Manicure Area- This area was so much fun for my 13 and 15 year olds to set up. The girls set up a folding table that had all the nail supplies spread out over it. It included nail polish of all colors, neon seemed to be the popular thing, as well as nail decals, nail polish remover, cotton balls, cuticle supplies, a fingernail trimmer, cottonballs, and nail soak treatments. My 13 year old had a great time being the manicurists. There was actually an argument regarding who was going to get this job!
The Pedicure/Spa Treatment Area- Here my 11 year old did her fancy work of laying a blanket on the floor with different comfy pillows to choose from, where the salon clients could comfortably lie down while they enjoyed a relaxing foot soak and foot massage followed by a top notch pedicure treatment. This area included a table with lots of cool neon nail polishes and decals as well, along with her different aromatic bath blends that she added to the warm water foot soaks. She also had some different great smelling lotions for the clients feet that she included on her display table.
The Hair and Make-up Area- Here is where it all came together! My 15 year old was the beautician. She called herself Sherese, and had everything displayed at her table from make-up brushes to eye shadows, lipsticks and glosses, and mascara. Also included in her area was everything hair! Mousse, gel, blow dryer, curling iron, straightening iron. We didn’t cut hair at all though. Just styled and styled we could stand no more! This was another area that arguments insued over! She had as much fun doing this as the little girls that came!
I can’t say enough about doing this party…it was such a blast for everyone involved. We topped the evening off with a Barbie movie and lots of snacks that included nachos, popcorn and soda. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a party that your daughter as well as yourself will never forget! Enjoy!
