My hair was once envied by many. Straight, silky and dark; just a quick brush after a shower would suffice. But as years passed, it lost its luster. The thickness disappeared and now I find a bunch of fine, limp, dull hair sparsely populated on my scalp. Doctors call it genes. But I realized in these years, after two kids, that not only have I inherited dullness in my disposition, but also in my hair.
To make matters worse, I have two daughters who keep complaining their hair falls flat!
Aisles and salons are lined with hair products for all kinds of hair. From personal experience and product reviews, I came across the following hair products that I would recommend for limp and dull hair.
My hairdresser was the first one to suggest Fudge Oomf Conditioner.
Thick and creamy, Fudge Conditioner is a dream for anyone having nightmares about their fine hair. You would love the bubblegum fragrance. Containing vegetable proteins and natural calendula it revitalized my hair. It provided the extra kick that my hair needed and added volume and shine, when used as directed.
After shampooing with Fudge Oomf Shampoo, I applied some conditioner on my palms and massaged the scalp. I liked the fact that it was thick; it penetrated the roots and remained there. I allowed it around 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. I noted a difference even when the hair was wet. It gave a wonderful moisturizing feeling, added bounce that remained most of the day.
Like the name suggests, it added a little Oomf to my lifeless, limp hair.
Not a mousse fan; I liked the feeling of Dove Mousse Volumizing, Body & Lift on my hair. Branded as “weightless moisture”, it sure leaves your hair shiny and soft. Usually, mousse makes the hair all crunchy and crisp when blow-dried but Dove kept it smooth. None of the hair products help my hair to maintain the style for the whole day, but this actually did for quite a long time. Also loved the fact that it wasn’t flaky!
Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening Shampoo is another hair product that many have suggested and I’ve used, enough to make a recommendation.
The size of the bottle and the price bothered me initially but, I realized I didn’t need a generous apply. A little helped! For me, it lasted for about three months. It made my hair fuller along with added shine and luster, though I don’t agree with the thickening part! (After years of trying and testing, I figured out those don’t exist. Or do they?) Personally, I don’t prefer powerful, smelling products; this product’s pleasant smell was a welcome change. The aloe leaf extracts moisturized, soothed and healed hair.
Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner is another product that I really liked. Winner of Allure’s Editor’s choice, this shampoo just bowled me over. A little whipped up a huge lather. According to Aveda.com the main benefits of the hair product are, “plant-based formula boosted by certified organic acacia gum and aroma with jasmine, certified organic peppermint, palmarosa and ylang ylang.”
I love the texture it gave my hair. It created volume, thickness and manageability and not to forget the irresistible smell.
Having said all that let me conclude with my favorite L’Oreal Vive Pro Glossy Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Cheap and easily available, “adds lightweight body and volume to flat, limp locks and ignites fine hair with glossy shine.” It didn’t weigh my hair down. Love the foam the shampoo creates! The scent is pleasant, just as I like. I pump my hair up with accompanying creamy Pro Glossy Volume Conditioner which washes off easily.
I guess everyone has to just try, test and keep their fingers crossed. Hope this helps!
