2008 was the year when fashion forward women took risks with their hair and cut it really short. Think Katie Holmes and Rihanna. It was all about the cropped bob for the daring females. So, what will this year bring when it comes to hair trends?
Women who had the bob style a year ago would have outgrown it and move on to the pixie cut, which is a layered version of the bob and offers a much more feminine look. It’s a must for women to possess confidence to carry this stylish hairstyle. Victoria Beckham frequently sports the pixie crop and she sure carries it well.
The bob trend still wouldn’t completely disappear. Women with shoulder-length hair can adapt a bob hairstyle just by adding more layers to it. Having fringe (or bangs as we call it) will also remain stylish and can give the bob more flair and edge. Supermodels Kate Moss and Heidi Klum can be seen out and about their business favoring this hair trend.
Of course, short hair doesn’t suit everyone’s tastes. Those who aren’t too experimental when it comes to their hair will still have trendy safer choices. Classy alternatives for long-haired women include the flowing style or the sleek and straight look. As far as celebrity-inspired hair trends go, the mermaid (wavy hair 1940s style) and the milkmaid braids are making comebacks and are usually the hairstyles that most celebrities will match with their formal dresses. Scarlett Johannson and Sienna Miller are two fashionable actresses who started hair trends through their red carpet looks.
One way of updating your look is changing your hair color. Where hair color is concerned, blonde is 2009’s choice, specifically peroxide blonde which is a hit with supermodels and actresses. Again, it isn’t for everyone. Brunettes and reds are also two popular shades. Just do away with colorful streaks and opt for the natural tones.
Hair style is one way of expressing yourself. 2009 is the year to take it to the extreme. Be bold and let your hair make a statement. Show that you’re fun, chic, girly and trendy. It is critical to go to a stylist whom you can trust to chop your hair right. It would be helpful to bring along a photo of the kind of style you want. Of course, it is essential to be in the know of the latest fashionable trends when it comes to hair.
