Basket O’ Flops
Whether your backyard has a pool or just lots of green grass, it’s a good idea to have a bucket of flip flops. Fill a large silver pail or large wicker basket with tons of flip flops in all different sizes. You can buy inexpensive foam and plastic flip flops for just a dollar at local dollar stores. Tie a large festive summer bow or to the handle of the container and set your basket o’ flops by the back door. Whenever visitors come, they can leave their shoes inside and get those tootsies warm in the sun. This is a fun and unexpected treat to guests. Guests can take the shoes home as a little ‘happy’ gift!
Sunning baskets are a kind and courteous touch for guests. On an entrance or exit table place a pretty basket filled with sun protection products. You might include SPF lotions in varying degrees of protection, tanning oil, tanning mist and sunblock for lips. It’s also a good idea to have a sun protection formula especially for children. SPF 30 or over is great for little ones.
In our home, we love throw pillows. One of my favorite summertime traditions is to pull the tubs of summer pillows out and give them a good airing. We have bright pillows in all different colors thrown all over the living room. During the summer, our children love piling them on the floor in front of the television for a summer weekend movie. Consider summer throw pillows in nautical colors like, red, white and blue. These are traditional yet styles and colors we love year after year.

Add some wicker touches to your decor this summer. You can find wicker chairs, couches and tables at yard sales and second hand shops. A coat of white spray paint while make these pieces summer ready. Mix pieces throughout the house for touch of summer whimsy.
Wispy Sheer Curtains
Trade out those dark winter colors for some wispy sheer curtains. We love bright white sheers but any color will due for summer. You might even lighten the look more by adding white wooden blinds to your windows. They cost more than the cheap plastic but last for years and look good all year round.
