The Spring and Summer 2009 fashion shows proved to be hot this year and the one in Rome, Italy(1) is among the hottest shows of all. Designers from around the world showed their goods on stage on January 30 and 31, 2009. The garments are creative, colorful, and just plain delicious. Keep reading to see the fashions of the top five designers at the show:
Dang Thi Minh Hanh, a native of Vietnam, showed her stuff at the fashion show in Rome. Clothing is becoming revolutionized in Vietnam, thanks to Hanh’s beautiful designs. She is also the director of the Vietnam Fashion Design Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. Hanh knows how to combine both the traditional with modern look, creating colorful clothes are are irresistable to wear. My pick: a dress with classic Asian lines and natural colors combined with aqua and turqouise. Beading finishes off the look. Perfect to wear to a dinner party.
Camillo Bona started his couture line in 1995 and proved to be among the most talented of Italian fashion designers. A graduate of the Academy di Alta Moda Koefia, Bona shows off some of his best creations at the Rome fashion show. My picks: a dress in white with shoulder straps and scalloped layers forming the floor length skirt. Did someone say wedding? This is the one dress for a modern wedding for the bride to wear. Also from Bona: a two layered dress in gold and cream with edging and long, flowing lines. Perfect for wearing to a cocktail party. Available through Bona’s boutiques in Roma and Monterotondo.
Marella Ferrera, a native of Catania, opened her first boutique in Milan but continues to work out of Catania. Her dresses are feminine and really become part of a woman, showing a mark of individuality. My picks: a dress of large white flowers suspended from shoulder straps. Each flower overlaps other flowers creating a piece of sculpture to be walked around in. This is a must see to believe. Great for late spring or summer near the beach or swimming pool. A second dress by Ferrera is moss green in color with purple at the front edge of the jacket that goes with the outfit. The bottom of the skirt is gathered, giving the dress a pixieish feel. This is the outfit to romp around in while on a picnic in the Italian forests. Ferrera’s clothes can be purchased through her boutiques in Catania and at Esti’s in New York City and Cupid’s Garden in Beverly Hills, California.
Tony Ward is a native of Lebanon and studied fashion in Paris, France. In 1995 he started his own clothing business in Lebanon, creating stylish and feminine clothing for women. One dress of his really stands out at the Rome Spring 2009 fashion show and it is pale peach in color, complete with drapes and ruffles that extend all the way to the floor. What woman would not want to wear such a beautiful dress? Ward’s clothes are available through his boutiques in Rome in Italy, Beirut in Lebanon, Moscow in Russia, and Palm Beach, Florida in the United States.
Imane Ayissi was born in Cameroon and studied fashion in Paris, introducing his first collection in 1994. He refers to his clothes as being elegant and chic for women. One white dress is definitely unique, with its loose strand that fall around the female figure, swirling like a court dance. The bodice is braided, creating a contrasting effect to the skirt of the dress. Purchases can be made through an appointment through his website.
