There are many times when we have met someone who seems naturally sociable. They are the people who will float around the room at social gatherings. These people seem to get along with everybody. Have you ever wondered how these people can be like this? Have you thought about how you can be more of a social butterfly? This article can help you unleash your social skills.
Being able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone can offer you immense opportunities, both in your personal and your professional life. For example, let’s say that you are looking to change jobs. You are standing in the local coffee shop and you strike up a conversation with the man standing in line with you. You soon find out that this man owns a huge company, and is looking for someone with your skills and experience. You also find out that this job is what you have been dreaming of. If you had not talked to your new boss, you may not have ever known that he was looking for you, and he would have never known that you were looking for him.
In the workplace, a social butterfly tends to become the go-to person. When you are socially involved, people around you feel that you are genuinely interested in them and their opinions. You will earn the trust of the people that you have to deal with on a daily basis.
In your personal life, if you are more social, you can have a large variety of friends. This can further help your social skills because each person that you socialize with has different interests and things that they like to do. You can effectively learn different cultural things from different kinds of friends and acquaintances.
There are a few important things that you should do and not do. Consider them socializing rules.
First, you should not be a hypocrite. Be honest. Don’t act interested if you’re not. Show people that you really care about what they are saying and they will return the favor.
Next, you have to learn how to listen to people. Don’t just hear what they are saying – really listen to them. Get involved in what they are talking about. If you don’t have the slightest idea, let them know, and even take it one step further….ask them to explain what they are talking about. Again, this shows that your are really interested in what they are talking about.
Soak up the humor and expand on it. If someone is trying to be humorous, don’t be afraid to laugh with them. Of course, the catch to this one is to be careful what you are laughing at. Make sure that they are not making a joke based on someone else’s bad experiences, especially if that person is not there. Also, don’t make a habit of laughing at every single thing that person says.
