Recently, I watched a program called Manswers on the Spike TV network. One episode showed how to make your own Hot tub, when ever you have a group of friends over.
Hot tubs and Jacuzzi’s can be very expensive. They also require maintenance and use up energy while in use. Many individuals will have a hot tub on their back deck but use them maybe once a summer. After a few months, they start thinking why did I waste my hard earned cash on this?
For those of us that don’t have one, we would like to just once have our own and invite some friends over. Well you can and there are several ways to do it.
The most important thing to remember is safety first. Always keep this in mind when you are putting your hot tub together.
The Tail bed Hot Tub.
Using the back of a pickup truck, take a large piece of high gauge black plastic as a liner. Lay it evenly in the back of the truck. There are some trucks that will already have heavy duty vinyl liners in them. This will help make your black plastic have a smoother surface in it. Drape the plastic over the outside of the truck. Now using duct tape, secure the plastic to the outside of the truck bed. Keep the tape on the plastic, not the paint of the truck.
Once your liner is secure, park your truck in direct sunlight. Now run a garden hose to the truck and turn on the water. It will take about three hours to fill it up. Once you get about two inches of water in the truck, look for leaks. Do not fill your truck so that the water over runs the sides.
You next need to get something that will make bubbles. One guy used a hose from his truck exhausts over the sides of the truck. Then started his truck. I don’t advise this. Carbon Monoxide is deadly even in the open air.
Instead, use old vacuum cleaners or shop vacs. Instead of sucking, switch them so that they are blowing. You will need at least two, but three or four will work better. Keep the power cords and motor away from the water.
Water Tank Storage
If you don’t have a pickup truck, try to locate an old animal water tank. They are about six to eight feet across. Repeat the same process with the black plastic liner and the Vacuums or Shop Vacs. The good thing about these is that you can place them on your deck. Always try to have them exposed to sunlight.
These are crude methods to use. However, for just a one time use, it can save you thousands of dollars.
One last thought. To get good us of your left over water, consider using it to irrigate yours or your neighbors garden area.
