Many women have the wonderful joys of experiencing pregnancy and having beautiful babies. How about when it comes to being pregnant while already mothering two or more children?
This can be extremely challenging for a mother since pregnancy can take a lot out of her especially in the first trimester. When the second trimester arrives those feelings of morning sickness and fatigue may fade but then there are other obstacles a mother may have to face. A growing belly is a big one to consider. It’s important for a mother to guard her belly from busy children always running into her. Telling the children to be careful is important but may be a challenge for the younger ones who do not understand.
In the third trimester a mother’s belly will be in full bloom by this point and she will need to take extra care of herself while taking care of her children. This is a major challenge but can be done. It’s important for the expectant mother not to be lifting any children if all possible. Extra help is going to be needed for the benefit of the mother and her children.
Here are some tips that an expectant mother may find beneficial while managing two or more children.
* Healthy Diet and Exercise– This is essential for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy lifestyle in order to manage other children in the household.
* Sit down and put your feet up– It is important for an expectant mother to get off of her feet whenever she is feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and or fatigued.
* Drink lots of water– It’s important for an expectant mother to stay hydrated since taking care of two or more children is a major work out and she will need to replenish her water supply. Not drinking enough water during pregnancy may lead to pre-term labor cause contractions. (babycenter.com)
* No heavy lifting– This is challenging especially if a mother has young children. It’s best for the expectant mother to sit down and then have the child crawl up onto the lap. Another challenge in this may be putting children into their car or booster seats. If the children are capable, they should be able to climb up into them for the mother to avoid that extra lifting.
*Get plenty of rest– Sleep is important for an expectant mother, she will need it since when the baby is born her sleep patterns will decrease due to a nursing baby.
Being an expectant mother with two or more children is definitely not easy at times and can even be trying. I can freely say this because I have been an expectant mother with two children. Of course the pros certainly outweigh the cons since children are truly joys. But life isn’t all flowery and wonderful so expectant mothers will have their days where they feel like they just can’t make it through a day physically and mentally.
Mothers are truly heroes and deserve recognition, unfortunately they do not get the recognition they deserve. The next time you see an expectant mother with two or more children attached to her hips, let her know she is special.
