How to Plan a Candy Fantasy Birthday Party for Preschoolers

by yup tab

Candy is a subject that captivates preschoolers like no other, so why not plan a candy fantasy themed birthday party for that special day?

Creating Candy Castles for Your Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

To create candy castles for your candy fantasy theme birthday party, you will need 2 large cardboard major appliance boxes. Refrigerator, stove or washing machine boxes work well for making candy castles. The exact size is unimportant, and the boxes need not be identical, but you will want boxes large enough to allow you to cut doorways the birthday party guests can walk through without stooping.

Using a utility knife, cut the embrasures (spaces) into the battlements around the top edge of each castle building. Cut mirror open doorways on two opposing sides of each box so that the birthday party guests can walk through the castle. Save the cardboard cut from the doorway to make other decorations.

Use a sponge and pink paint to create a pink brick castle exterior.

The candy castles will be used for a candy castle walk game.

Candy Spinner for Your Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

Make a candy spinner for the candy castle walk game.

Using a round piece of cardboard, a cardboard arrow and a paper fastener, create a candy spinner. Paint lines dividing the cardboard circle into 4 equal sections. Paint a number – 1, 2, back 1, back 2- in each section.

Candy Stepping Stones for Your Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

The final item you will make for the candy castle walk game is candy stepping stones.

Using sturdy cardboard (the birthday party guests will be walking on these stepping stones), create candy shaped stepping stones that correspond to candy you will use for the game. Some possible choices include lollipops, chocolate kisses, gummy bears, and gum balls. Try to choose candies that are colorful and have distinctive shapes for this game. The exact number of stepping stones is unimportant but about a dozen should be sufficient for the candy castle fantasy game.

Decorative Candy for Your Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

Using the leftover cardboard from the castles, create decorative candy icons to place throughout the party area.

Invitations for Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

Cut the invitation into the shape of the birthday child’s favorite candy, add the necessary information concerning the party, and tape a piece of candy to the invitation for invitations handed out in person. Mailed invitations may have to settle for a stick of gum.

Games for Your Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

The Candy Castle Walk Game for the Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

To assemble the candy castle walk game before the candy fantasy theme birthday party, place the two castles 15 or 20 feet apart, or as far as available space permits. Make a path with the stepping stones to connect the castles.

When the game is played, each birthday party guest in turn will take a candy bag and enter the castle designated start. The birthday party guest will spin the spinner, stepping forward or backward the number of stepping stones indicated. (If the number requires the birthday party guest to step backward into the start castle, the guest will simply try again the next turn. If the number requires the guest to step through the finish castle, that birthday party guest has finished the game.)

The birthday party guest will receive one piece of candy corresponding to the stepping stone on which the guest landed on each turn.

Make Your Own Candy at a Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

Even a preschooler can make candy at a candy fantasty theme birthday party if you choose a simple enough recipe. The easiest candy recipe for preschoolers to make may be molded chocolates made with preformed molds and candy melts, available in a craft store.

Other simple candy making options include butterscotch coated chow mein noodles and homemade lollipops.

Taffy Pull for the Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

Make an abundance of taffy, and let it cool. Wash each birthday party guest’s hands. Coat the birthday party guests’ hands with cooking oil or butter to prevent the taffy from sticking. (Some birthday party guests may object to the feel of oil or butter on their hands, so it is a good idea to have a special role in mind for any guest who does not want to get his or her hands greasy. Special roles might include calling time checks or candy supervisor.) Teach the birthday party guests to pull, stretch, and fold the taffy until it becomes too hard to pull. Then it is ready for an adult to break or cut into pieces. Once the taffy is cut, the birthday party guests can place it in wax paper (precut and ready to be used as candy wrappers) and roll the ends to close the candy wrapper.

Make a Candy Tree for the Candy Fantasy Theme Birthday Party

Money may not grow on trees, but candy does at the candy fantasy theme birthday party. Attach strings to wrapped pieces of candy and hang them so the birthday party guests can easily reach them.

Any party that is all about candy is a birthday party a preschool age birthday party guest is sure to enjoy.
