One of the lesser known functions of the Nintendo DS is the alarm clock. This can prove helpful whenever you forget to bring an alarm clock or a similar device when away from home. Not to mention that it is easy to set up. Just take the following steps to set up your DS as an alarm clock.
Before starting, you need to keep two big things on your mind. The first is to make sure your Nintendo DS has enough battery power left so that it will last until the alarm goes off. If the power indicator is showing red, you may want to recharge your Nintendo DS. The second is to turn the volume to highest possible decimal. This is because the alarm will come straight from the Nintendo DS speakers.
Locating the Clock Section of the Settings Menu
After you power on your Nintendo DS, press any button or touch the bottom screen to bring up the main menu. If a game loads up instead, turn off your Nintendo DS and then take out the DS Card and/or Game Boy Advance Game Pak. Doing so will make the menu appear since there are no games in either slots when you turn on your Nintendo DS again.
From the main menu, scroll all the way down past the DS Card, Pictochat, DS Download Play and Game Boy Advance Game Pak to the last option available. It should have a small Nintendo DS picture on it. Either touch it with your stylus or press the A button to go into the settings menu.
There are four different settings in the settings menu: options, clock, user and touch screen. Go pick the clock settings and either use your stylus or press A to enter it.
Entering the Current Time
You are given three options in the clock section: date, time and alarm. Before setting up the alarm time, you have to make sure the current time is accurate. So select the clock symbol first. Again, you can either use a stylus or press A to enter.
You can use the stylus or directional pad to change the hours and minutes. Keep in mind that the Nintendo DS uses a 24 hour clock system (4:00 p.m. will be displayed as 16:00, for example). Once you are done with the configuration press the A button or touch the confirm box with your stylus to record your change.
Setting up the Alarm Clock
Once you are right back out to the clock section, scroll left to the alarm symbol and use a stylus or press A to enter. The interface to set up the alarm is exactly the same as the clock. So repeat the same steps as above.
Once you are done setting the alarm, press the X button or touch the Turn Alarm On area. Touch Yes or press the A button when prompted in order to turn the alarm on. The Nintendo DS will then tell you that the alarm is currently on.
Afterwards, fold your Nintendo DS to bring it into sleep mode in order to conserve battery power. Do not power off your Nintendo DS. To disable the alarm before or after it went off, simply unfold the Nintendo DS and either touch the screen or press any button. Keep in mind that pressing the L and/or R buttons won’t disable alarm mode.
Congratulations on setting up the alarm for your Nintendo DS!
