VH1’s hit reality show, “Rock Of Love Charm School” features young ladies who were cast off of Brett Michael’s televised search for love in both installments of “Rock Of Love.” Under the tutelage of the witty and brutally honest Sharon Osbourne, these women try to learn the errors of their ways and clean up their behavior to achieve a more respectable and gentler way of treating themselves and others. Sharon Osbourne has certainly led a very colorful life herself and has tons of experience to pass on to these young contestants. Difficult Childhood. Sharon Rachel Osbourne was born in October of 1952 to music manager Don Arden and his wife Hope. Sharon’s childhood was continually in upheaval from the extreme financial highs and lows of her father’s career. Sharon never knew whether the day would bring a brand new car in the driveway and a closet full of new clothes or having the utilities shut off. She had a very close relationship with her father Don, who was known to be controlling and ruthless in business deals but always felt estranged from her mother. Unfortunately, that relationship was never mended. Sharon also battled a weight problem early on which only added more stress and feelings of insecurity.
Meeting Her Soul Mate And Losing Her Father. Sharon met future husband Ozzy Osbourne while working for her father in the mid seventies. Don Arden was the manager of Ozzy’s band “Black Sabbath.” and Sharon was smitten with the talented musician almost from the start. When Ozzy was fired from the band, Sharon took the door also and began to manage Ozzy’s career. Don Arden did not take kindly to anyone crossing him, even family, and cut both Sharon and Ozzy out of his life. It took many years before father and daughter reunited.
Building An Empire. Sharon Osbourne is credited with reviving Ozzy’s career and changing his public persona from wild rocker to gentle family man. She created the ultra successful “Ozzfest: which is a Woodstock type music festival featuring heavy metal bands and helped to produce “The Osbournes,” an MTV reality show that ran from 2002 to 2005 and depicted the fascinating and loving Osbourne family as they go about their daily lives. Prior to hosting “Rock Of Love Charm School,” Sharon hosted Britain’s “X Factor” which is the equivalent of the American talent competition “American Idol,” and “America’s Got Talent.” Sharon also had her own daytime talk show, which was canceled after a short run. Through Sharon’s vision and hard work, the family certainly never needs to worry about money as long they live.
Dark Days. Sharon Osbourne is nothing if not a survivor. She has had many unfortunate life events thrown at her including colon cancer, a suicide attempt by her son Jack, Ozzy’s decades long struggle against drug and alcohol addiction and her children Kelly and Jack’s own addiction and recovery processes. Although her early married years contained many violent episodes under the haze of alcohol and drug use, Sharon and Ozzy stuck it out and now have one of the most enduring and happy marriages in Rock and Roll.
