Jennifer Aniston is everywhere these days, gracing the covers of magazines, starring in movies, giving interviews. She’s also on the cover of January’s edition of GQ magazine. She’s wearing nothing but a red, white, and blue tie. On the inside of GQ, you get to see more of the outside of Jennifer Aniston as she poses nude for the gentleman’s magazine.
If the wet t-shirted and provocatively posed Aniston in her 2009 desktop calendar was not enough for the Jennifer Aniston fan who wants to know all and see all about the 39-year-old actress, then the January GQ magazine will be a must have. She bares all, including talking about her ex, Brad Pitt, which seems to have become obligatory in any interview she does.
In what sounds like a rehash of her interview in December’s Vogue, Jennifer Aniston told GQ that she stays in contact with Brad Pitt, especially when there was something to “congratulate or celebrate.” “But there is no charge in it,” she said.
This would mean that Brad Pitt should expect a phone call from Aniston shortly. Pitt was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor (Drama) for his performance in the movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Of course, Angelina Jolie was also nominated (Best Actress in a Drama for “Changeling”), but, after Aniston’s telling Vogue magazine that some of Jolie’s statements about her releationship with Brad Pitt while he was still married to Aniston were “uncool,” it is uncertain whether or not congratulations will extend further than the ex.
Although not nominated for any awards, Jennifer Aniston does have a movie coming out. In fact, she will be competing for ticket sales with her ex. “Marley &Me,” where Aniston stars opposite Owen Wilson, opens in theatres on Christmas Day, as does Pitt’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” “Marley & Me” is rated PG and being billed as a family movie, so don’t expect any nude scenes (maybe in the director’s cut of “Marley & Me,” but that won’t appear for some months).
Whether Aniston is going through a self-affirming phase or she feels more confident in herself, the public seems to be seeing a lot more of her of late. Perhaps it is catharsis. Appearing nude before the world is sometimes seen as therapeutic, showing that you have nothing to hide. It is also seen as symbolic of casting off the clothes of things previous (and given the rocky and fleeting relationships she has had in the past few years, could anyone blame her?), facing the world from an unencumbered perspective.
Or perhaps she simply enjoys having pictures taken of her in the nude.
Most fans will not care why the “Friends” actress seems to be in more nude layouts or photo shoots than anytime in her career. Most will look at it as publicity for her upcoming movie projects. Some will call it a desperate attempt to prove she is still young, attractive, desirable.
Fans will still love her. Critics will still despise her.
Aniston explains her current state of mind to GQ: “I feel more comfortable today than I ever did in my 20s or early 30s. I’m healthier. I’m more at peace in my mind and with my body.”
Those who read GQ magazine will have no problem with that. Most subscribers to Gentlemen’s Quarterly, appropriately enough, are men. And most men will simply think it’s sexy Jennifer Aniston in the nude. Is there more?
