This Psalm 48 describes what took place after an attack on Jerusalem. The Korahites would do two things. First they would praise God for His protection and then secondly they would inspect the city.
First they realize that their protection comes from God. They realize that by themselves that they can do nothing. They give honor to God first for this is the right thing to do. How many times in our lives does God deliver us from an attack from Satan? Do we praise the Lord right away? What is our response? We need to remember Who our deliverer is. This is the utmost importance; for without Him we can do nothing.
The second thing that I want us to notice is that the Korahites went and inspected the city after an attack on Jerusalem. They were going and looking to see which parts of the city were weakened and needed to be worked on. They were also looking at the strengths so that they knew what was done correctly. They could learn from their strengths. We need to analyze after an attack from Satan. We need to see where we are vulnerable. Which part of our city is weak? Where can we be built up in our lives to gain strength against the enemy? How is our faith? Do we need to be reading the Word more? We need to be hiding the Word of the Lord in our hearts so that in times of attack we can call on it for strength. This will also increase our faith in the Lord because we will see and understand His deliverance. Are there sins in our lives that we are not dealing with? Are we making ourselves weak and vulnerable to attack? Then we need to analyze and give those temptations and sins over to the Lord so that He can help us to get rid of them.
I love looking at versus 5-8 where it describes that the kings fled in terror after they tried to attack Jerusalem. Satan does this very thing. He is astounded. He knows that God is our protector. God is the King of our city; we are His Jerusalem, and the nations around us will tremble from His power. We are protected when we are attacked. We just need to recognize that He is the one that is in control. We can do this by submitting to Him. Verse number 10 is also a great verse because it says that the Korahites went to the temple and pondered His steadfast love. After a victory, actually we should be doing this always; we need to ponder God’s love for us. His love is steadfast. It endures forever. He does not give up on us. Verse 15 talks about God always leading us. He always leads us to victory over attacks if we will let Him.
