Jhirmack Silver Brightening Shampoo for Gray, Colored or Highlighted Hair: Product Review

by yup tab

Walking around Walgreen’s drugstore, I found a great buy. It was Jhirmack Silver Brightening Shampoo for gray, blonde, bleached or highlighted hair. It had been reduced twice and the final price was $2.19. This is so much better than paying around $5 for the Pantene Pro V Silver Expressions shampoo that I often use, or the even more expensive Clairol Professional Shimmer Lights.

The bottle is a big 20 fluid ounce (591 ml), rather than the 13.5 fluid ounce Pantene product, or 8 fluid ounce Clairol shampoo, so even better value than I had first thought.

The bottle is white with a dark pink label. It is a regular shaped bottle and doesn’t have any area to grip the bottle with wet hands. It could easily slip, so I may transfer some of the shampoo to a smaller bottle, that I can get my hands around.

My hair has recently been highlighted and has a lot of blonde in it. I like to keep the blonde looking good and not brassy so prefer to purchase a product that will keep it looking good.

I normally wash my hair every 5 days or so, because it is shoulder length and I wash it, dry it, use a curling iron on it, and then back comb it like crazy. That is the only way I can get height in it, and then do my French curl at the back. I really mistreat my hair so when it comes to washing it, I like a product that puts back goodness, volume, and keeps the color in my hair.

Jhirmack Silver Brightening Shampoo, is a very thick purple colored shampoo, the same as Pantene Pro V Silver Expressions, and Clairol Professional Shimmer Lights, which I often use. It has a very pleasant floral smell that isn’t too overpowering.

Washing my hair:

I wet my hair and put the shampoo in the palm of my hands. Next I lathered it up, and added a little more shampoo, until I got a great lather. It states on the bottle to keep on hair for up to two minutes, but I normally keep mine on for 5 minutes, while I am taking my shower. Normally I would do a second shampoo, with any cheap one I have, but because this is a huge bottle, I but a small amount on my palm, and shampooed my hair a second time with it. It took such a small amount to lather well.

After I rinsed my hair really well and then I was ready to abuse my hair all over again.

My hair looked bright, full of life, and the highlights with silver stood out. There was no yellowing or dullness about my hair.

What Jhirmack say about their product from the back of the bottle:

“Silver Brightening Shampoo is professionally formulated to help neutralize yellowing, enhance highlights and tone down brassiness in gray, blonde and bleached hair. Jhirmack shampoos help protect against breakage and styling damage when used in conjunction with Jhirmack Conditioners. It is fortified with strengthening proteins and provitamin B5 which penetrate the hair cortex to improve hair’s strength and protect against the damaging effects of styling and the environment. The result is healthy beautiful hair.”

Ingredients:

Water, sodium, laureth sulfate, cocamphodiacetate, glycol disterate, sodium PCA, hydrolyzed collagen, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), panthenol (provitamin B5), nonoxynol-12, fragrance, citric acid, methylparaben, propylparaben, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, ext D&C violet No. 2.

I checked on the Internet and found this product to be around $6 retail. Therefore I am planning on heading back to Walgreen’s drugstore to see if they have anymore of these in stock. I would be stupid not to purchase them. The bottle of shampoo will last a long time, as it contains two and a half times the amount of shampoo, compared to the Clairol product.

So if you have highlights that look like ‘dull lights’, then this just may be the shampoo for you.

Their website is down at the moment but you can telephone 1-800-645-6190.
