Vice President-elect Joe Biden felt he had to shush his wife, Jill Biden, when she said on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that her husband had his choice whether he wanted to be Vice President or Secretary of State. When she said that, Joe Biden turned to his wife, put his finger to his lips and “shushed” his wife.
The Washington Times carries a story “Biden shushes wife over VP revelation,” that was reported by the Associated Press. The audience laughed and the commentary was made it was a good thing Biden took Vice President because Secretary of State would require more protection of secrets.
There was some musing as how Hillary Clinton might feel about the “Oprah” show.
In addition to the Associated Press article The Seattle Times echoed the information and then also indicated that Obama was going to act quickly to repeal Bush rules that prevented federal monies from going to family planning groups that encourage abortion.
In the article “Notebook/Obama will act fast to repeal Bush rules” in addition to repealing the federal funds we are told that additionally stem cell research will go full tilt. Essentially, some of the issues that were held back due to right-wing bible positions will be allowed to move forward by Obama.
Obama’s spokeswoman denied the fact that Biden was given a choice rather that both jobs were discussed with him.
Among all this information, perhaps the largest impact comes from the background of the Civil Rights Movement. Just Monday the country celebrated Martin Luther King’s birthday and this is no doubt a major exciting time for African-Americans. Yet, there is no lack of excitement among for everyone.
The comments by Joe Biden’s wife, Jill, obviously will cause a little concern. Of interest is that some of these smaller issues that may have been a major news item say under Bush, are not getting the attention or are not getting the attention in the same negative way. It is as if the country is tired of unimportant trivia.
I recall a situation years ago when I had been elected to the office of Precinct Committeeman. I was asked by the press what the outcome of the election was and I was the last to know.
From all accounts, what happened with Biden’s “Shush” of his wife was that it was something that brought a laugh not a problem.
