Country music artists Keith Urban and Taylor Swift, fresh off their appearances at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, have announced concert dates for their upcoming summer tours, according to Ticket Network. Tickets are on sale as well. Keith Urban will be promoting his sixth studio album, “Defying Gravity,” on his “Escape Together World Tour,” which will kick off on March 17 at the Houston Rodeo. Taylor Swift will appear at the Houston Rodeo three days later but will not officially begin her “The Fearless Tour 2009” until April in Evansville, Indiana. The two will cross paths again – nine times — on their respective tours.
Keith Urban proved his prowess on the guitar at the Grammy Awards when he sat in with the legendary B. B. King and Buddy Guy. Along with John Mayer, the four performed a tribute to the late blues guitar legend Bo Diddley, who passed away in 2008. Before the performance, however, Keith Urban was asked to fill in on a last-minute impromptu performance the Grammy producers put together to cover the Rihanna cancellation. Urban played guitar while Justin Timberlake, Al Green, and Boyz II Men sang “Let’s Stay Together.”
There will be a host of great support bands for Keith Urban along the way as well. Opening up for the Aussie singer will be artists such as Sugarland, Dierks Bentley, the Zac Brown Band, and Jason Aldean.
Keith Urban has sold over 12 million albums, according to Billboard.
Taylor Swift has sold roughly 7 million albums to date, with “Fearless” currently having sold the most albums of 2009 (nearly 3 million). “Fearless” is Swift’s second album and the 19-year-old just put in eight weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart before being knocked out of the top position by “The Boss,” Bruce Springsteen.
Taylor Swift co-hosted the Grammy Awards this past Sunday evening and sung a duet with gal pal Miley Cyrus called “Fifteen,” which Swift wrote.
Joining Taylor Swift on tour will be “American Idol” finalist Kellie Pickler. The two appeared together with Ryan Seacrest on ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve.”
According to PR Newswire, back on February 6, Taylor Swift tickets went on sale for the may 22 concert at the Staples Center (the same place that held the Grammy Awards) in Los Angeles and sold out the venue in two minutes, a Staples Center record.
Keith Urban and Taylor Swift will pair up for the first time in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 5. It is doubtful any venue with either of these stars will have tickets long.
Keith Urban’s “Defying Gravity” will be released on March 31.
