Homemade salsa is a healthy treat that can be eaten with Mexican-style food, and used as a condiment for a number of other dishes. I love the taste of fresh tomatoes, onions and coriander combined with a small amount of jalapenos and lime juice and will use homemade salsa again and again for many different dishes without tiring of it. But if you do not have the time to make your own salsa, try Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select.
Price and First Impressions
My husband recently made beef tacos for dinner, which looked delicious. As I compiled my tacos high with rice, lettuce, tomato, onion and beef, I then noticed a jar of Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select sitting on the counter. It cost $1.75 for the 680g (24oz) jar of salsa, which was not a bad deal at all. I had not seen this brand of salsa before in the shops and was interested to see what it would taste like. My only concern was that this was a “medium” brand of salsa. My delicate taste buds cannot usually handle anything hotter than mild, so I did not think I would find Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select very palatable. But rather than pass judgement before I had even tried it, I added a small amount of salsa on my plate and made sure I had some water beside me in case the salsa was too hot to handle.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised when I tried Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select. It was not fiery hot and so loaded full of heat like some brands I have tried that I could not appreciate the ingredients in the product.
The texture of the salsa was thick, but it also contained more than the usual ingredients. My husband and I noticed that it also contained black beans and sweetcorn. In addition to these wholesome ingredients, Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select also contains a generous helping of tomatoes, chili peppers, jalapenos, green and red peppers, onions, sugar, salt, vinegar, basil and oregano. I was pleased to see that there were no artificial flavours or preservatives or any High Fructose Corn Syrup added to this product.
Each 28g (2 tbsp) serving of Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select contains just 10 calories, no fat or cholesterol, 150mg of sodium, 2g carbohydrates, and no fibre, sugar or protein. This product is low in calories and fat free. It is also low in sodium.
I enjoyed the taste of Medium Southwest Salsa by Sunny Select. It was well priced, had a good texture and contained natural ingredients. I would thoroughly recommend this product.
