Continuing its amazing growth rate through 2008 millions of users tune into YouTube everyday to get a peek at what’s hot out there in the world of the Internet. And looking back at 2008 its plain to see that what’s hot on YouTube is music. With that in mind it’s no surprise that the 5 most popular videos to debut on YouTube in 2008 were music to YouTubers ears.
5. Rihanna – Take A Bow
At number 5 in the list of most popular YouTube Videos is artist Rihanna, the Pop, R&B princess with the official release of her Take a Bow video, from the Reloaded version of the 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad. It’s a show of strength and control even as she burns his clothes dismissing his every attempt to escape the inevitable. With over 35 million viewers Rihanna’s message must have struck a few YouTube chords. Just remember, like doing laundry, it’s best to separate clothing before burning.
4. Official Jason Mraz – I’m Yours Video
YouTubers enjoy their music eclectic during 2008 with over 36 million of them tuning in to watch this Jason Mraz video posted in March. The video begins with Jason Mraz sitting on a plane showing different scenes of a lush tropical paradise. But this vacation isn’t just about lounging, from long lonely roads we’re shown that there are skaters in this tropical paradise who enjoy swimming beneath tall waterfalls followed by a hike through pristine forests, and surfing perfect waves. He finishes off the night by singing on the beach in front of a campfire. The video ends with a shot of him sitting on the beach while waves crash against the shore beneath a steel grey sky. 3. Chris Brown – Forever
Chris Brown offers YouTubers the chance to double your pleasure and double your fun in the number 3 video on the list of You Tube’s most popular, Forever. This Dance-pop video had over 36 million views since its debut in May, offering an MTV best dancing in a video nominated performance. And dancing is what sets this video apart from the others in the list. Arriving at the dance club alone, Doublemint gum in hand, Brown and his backup dancers tear up the empty floor with hot steps. But there’s a love story in the video as well as Brown performs in what Billboard magazine calls a “digital dream about sharing with one who makes your world stop.” Brown is seen in the video with his love interest literally falling in love, complete with a saving leap from the roof to catch her as she falls off. Safe on solid ground the two leave the club in his car together. Wringley’s Doublemint gum got its money’s worth when it chose Chris Brown and Forever as its commercial jingle, and with this many You Tube viewers it should stay at the top of the most viewed list for awhile to come.

Thanks to the failed efforts of ninjas we find out that Kevin Jonas’ Kung Fu is strong, enough to free his damsel in distress. Joe Jonas puts on a linen suit and t-shirt while taking a turn as a cop, ala Miami Vice style. With big sunglasses and even bigger moustache Joe Jonas is fighting crime and killing fashion all in the same blow. Rounding off the three, playing a game of Mahjong, super-spy style against Profiler’s Robert Davi, Nick Jonas dons the famous James Bond Tuxedo, and coolly does the spy credit along with Disney pal Selena Gomez as Nick’s Bond girl.
