In this day and age of plastic marketing, where it seems that everything that we see on TV and magazines is too close to perfection to be real, it is the rare breathe of fresh air to find TV families that you can relate to. There have been many TV shows through out the years that my family and I have been able to relate to. We are not the most normal family, yet we do have many similar traits to other families that we know. There are 5 most relatable TV families that I find that our family can relate to.
Besides being one of my all time favorite television shows from the time that I was in school, The Simpsons reminded me of some of the different traits of my family. I am the oldest of three children and like Lisa Simpson; I was always the intelligent one that seemed to be off on their own when it came to the rest of the family. My interests were always different from the rest of the family.
Who did not like to watch the Keatons every night on TV. From the popular Mallory to the smart preppy Alex, we could all find a character in this TV show to relate to. I found myself feeling more like Alex Keaton as I grew up and wishing that I was more like Mallory and dating and focusing on being pretty. The family dynamic was always great in this 80’s sitcom.
Growing Pains is one of the most relatable funny families that were on TV. My sister often seemed so like Carol Seaver the middle child on the show. She was often over shadowed by her older brother Mike, sorry sis. Then there was the younger brother Ben who always got more attention then her. If ever there was a show that depicted the void that is the middle child it would be this television show.
The Brady Bunch
This iconic television show has to be on everyone’s most relatable television shows for all families. For my family this show depicted the struggle between the older and middle sister all too well. The fights and the drama were always very close to what my sister and I went through on a daily basis. Marsha and Jan always battled like my sister and I did and still do to this day.
Full House was always one of the television shows that my entire family would sit down for and enjoy every Friday. The most relatable thing about this funny family was the reality of living with extended family members. My family has had our Uncle from my mother’s side living with us for as long as I can remember. Jesse and Joey were the answer to some of the problems and concerns that would come from living with my Uncle. One of the biggest things that it helped us with as we grew up was where the line of being friends with out live in Uncle and where the authority figure line had to be drawn.
