What would Christmas be without Christmas carols? As soon as Thanksgiving is over the carols begin to blare its way over the radio waves in every shopping mall and restaurant. And we all know that when one comes all that we grew up loving, you find yourself singing to that song as if you are on autopilot. They are the songs that we look forward to hearing every year, so here are some of my favorites that I love to hear whenever there is the Yule tide in the air.
1. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
I have always loved this song. It is a fun and unusual Christmas song that is very funny and lighthearted. This is a favorite of my entire family, especially my young nephew.
2. Twelve Days of Christmas
I always liked this song, but after twenty odd years, I have finally learned the words to this song and I now add it to my list of favorites. Honestly I think it is because I am proud I finally learned it.
3. Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)
Who doesn’t want a plane that goes loopy loopor a hula hoop? I have always enjoyed this song that Alvin, Simon, and Theodore sing. It is now a true Christmas carol classic.
4. Jingle Bells
This is a carol that has been around for a very long time, but just because it is an old song doesn’t mean you cannot put a new spin on it. Korn, a nu metal rock band, has put a very interesting spin on this old classic. Anyone who likes rock music will love this version of the song.
5. Last Christmas
This is not a traditional Christmas carol, but this song by Wham is a favorite Christmas time song with my husband.
6. Whit Christmas
I have loved this song since I was a little girl. I have lived in Georgia all of my life where we experience pretty mild Christmases. So I can honestly say I dream of a white Christmas, it just doesn’t happen here except on an extremely rare occasion. In fact, I can say in my life it has happened twice so every year I listen to this song and wish away for snow on Christmas day.
7. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
Who doesn’t love the story about the bullied reindeer that saved Christmas? It is definitely one of my favorite Christmas movies, and the song is no different. Rudolph is an underdog turned hero and I have always been a sucker for those types of stories.
8. Little Drummer Boy
My favorite part of this songs is the “Rum Bump a Bump Bum” parts. It makes the song for everyone I think.
9. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
This is again one of those extremely funny songs that make me giggle during Christmas time. I love light- hearted songs and this one takes it to the extreme.
10. All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
I loved this song when I was little, because right before Christmas I pulled both of my two front teeth to leave for the tooth fairy. I drove my parents crazy that year singing that song because I loved the irony of the situation. So whenever I hear that song I think of that year and smile again.
