You can live without your gallbladder, but there is no reason to necessarily jump to a major abdominal surgery because of a relatively minor problem like gallstones. Gallstones are painful deposits of fat and cholesterol that build up in the gall bladder or billiary ducts, ultimately leading to a number of complications unless they are properly treated.
When I found out I had gallstones, I was faced with two options: a major surgery that would cost thousands of dollars more than I could ever afford, or a few dozen dollars’ worth of natural supplements that would eliminate both the symptoms and the gallstones themselves. Naturally–no pun intended– I chose to use herbal remedies to treat my gallstones.
How Milk Thistle Eliminates Gallstones
As an herbalist, I have recommended milk thistle widely and emphatically to my clients with disorders of the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. One close friend fo mine made a near-complete recovery of cirrhosis of the liver using milk thistle and a variety of other herbal medicines that stimulate healthy production of bile. Milk thistle also fights gallstones by preventing excessive buildup of cholesterol, a common cause of gallstones and related conditions.
Artichoke Compounds Naturally Fight Gallstones
Several herbal compounds found in artichoke leaves and hearts are capable of heightening the body’s production of bile salts– a lack of which will often create complications like gallstones. Cyanarin is one natural compound that has been clinically proven to stimulate production of bile and the salts it contains. This can help the body to function properly even when bile ducts are blocked by gallstones. Increased bile salts can also help to dissolve and eliminate gallstones.
Couchgrass: A Natural Diuretic Cleanses Gallstone Deposits
Couchgrass is relatively underutiilized for its potential to treat gallstones and related conditions, but it was very effective in my case. Couchgrass contains active volatile oils that are known to have diuretic and antiseptic properties. By stimulating the cleansing action of the kidneys, couchgrass in conjunction with other herbs can safely remove deposits from the gall bladder. This is an especially effective treatment when it is used for mineral-deposit related gallstones.
These herbs can each be used either alone or together to combat gallstones and related symptoms. One excellent brand to try for natural gallstone treament is Solaray, which offers a line of standardized, guaranteed-potency products that have been proven by science to be both safe and effective. Both individual herbal remedies by Solaray and the Gallstonex product–which includes these three herbs plus several others– are ideal choices for those pursuing natural gallstone treatment.
If you are interested in trying alternative treatments for gallstones, talk to your physician. Whether used alone or with conventional treatments, you and your doctor can determine together if natural herbal remedies will be a safe and effective treatment for your case.
