New Orleans Style Jambalaya Mix; A Product Review

by yup tab

Experts that make fresh Jambalaya are pretty hard to beat if you like Cajun food. However, it is possible for the average individual to make Jambalaya that tastes just as good. All you need is meat and a box of Rice Bowl’s New Orleans Style Jambalaya Mix.

The Jambalaya Mix comes in a 8 ounce (227g) box. It can be prepared both on a stove top or in a microwave oven.

The important key is to determine what type of meat to use in the mix. I prefer Polish Sausage myself. However, Shrimp, Italian Sausage, Crab Meat, and other types of meat have been used.

Each box has directions on the side for preparation. It takes 25 to 30 minutes both ways. 25 minutes to cook and 5 minutes to let it stand.

First; Prepare your meat. If you use Sausage, cook it until it is done. Drain off any extra grease that is on it and set it aside. Be sure that the meat is cut up the way you want it. I usually cut it up first before I cook it. I also use Olive Oil to cook the meat in. It is a lot healthier.

Second; I prepare the Jambalaya Mix separately. I do it on the stove top. Right before it is finished, I add the meat for about the last five minutes of the cooking process.

Nutritional Facts;

Each box serves six. It equals one cup per serving. Each serving has 130 calories. Five of these calories are from fat. Total fat is 0.5g or 1 percent. There is no trans fat. There is no saturated fat as well. Cholesterol 0mg and 0%. Sodium 350mg or 15 percent. Total carbohydrates 28g or 9 percent. Dietary Fiber is 2g or 9 percent. Sugar 1g. Protein 3g. Vitamin A 0 percent. Vitamin C 0 percent. Calcium 4 percent. Iron 6 percent.

The New Orleans Jambalaya Mix is a great way to help celebrate on Fat Tuesday or bring in the celebration of Mardi Gras. You can serve it as an addition to the main meal or as a meal to itself.

Although it has a small spicy taste to it, it is not too hot (spicy) to eat. It works great with other food items like fresh veggies, breads, and potatoes.

The New Orleans Jambalaya Mix is a product of Aldi’s. Aldi’s has their own web site. It can be found at www.aldi.com .

The cost of the box at Aldi’s was about $1. That is well within my budget. If you decide to try the Jambalaya, just be sure to follow their preparation directions on the side of the box.
