First Raleigh Night, a special community event was created in 1990 as a joyful, family-oriented, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts. Admission buttons, worn proudly by participants, make it the most accessible, inexpensive, and safest way to celebrate the New Year. This event has grown into the largest New Year’s Eve event held in Eastern North Carolina.
Being that this is Artsplosure’s 18th annual New Year’s Eve celebration of art and community in downtown Raleigh, First Night Raleigh 2009’s celebration will start with the Children’s Celebration beginning at 2:00 p.m., at the NC Museums of History and Natural Sciences and outside on Bicentennial Plaza, followed by the People’s Procession and Early Countdown at 7:00 p.m.
Evening entertainment features music, comedy, dance, and theatre. Performers include the Smithereens; John Brown and the Groove Shop Band; Claire Lynch; Christine Lavin; Mark Nizer; Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater; Transactors Improv Company; Lenny Marcus Trio; Southern String Band; Elm Collective; Paco Band; and more! This party is hosted by one of Raleigh’s most popular radio stations, G105. DJ Mike Morse of Bob & The Showgram, Brody, Randi West, and Geller will broadcast live. Since they have only 1600 tickets available, it is highly recommended that you purchase your tickets online from December 1, 2008 to December 24, 2008, since the cost per ticket is a mere $35.00. From December 24, 2008 to December 30, 2008, the cost per ticket increases to $45.00.
