Nintendo, especially the DS, has been a disappointment to many fans, not because of the hardware but because of title availability. Nintendo traditionally steers clear of the more mature titles, and thus leaves something to be lacked in title selection.
The annual E3 games show held in the summer of 2008. This one turned out to dissatisfy gamers, no consoles nor the titles were announced by well known Publishers and franchises as is usually done. Nintendo, one of the whales in this industry, lacked their potential this year. Wii Music which they announced this year turned out to be a big loss, due to poor sales and bad reviews. The only thing they gave to DS lovers is the announcement of GTA:Chinatown Wars which would be released on the DS.
The announcement surprised all DS gamers because GTA is a game known for its adult content while the Nitendo consoles are known for their U/A games. This shook the heart of the DS lovers. Gamers thought, the adult content in game will be toned down to fit for DS consoles. Developers of GTA stated they would not tone the adult contents, they also added that Nitendo did not ask them to tone the content down. Professional Gamers fear that toning GTA’s content would decrease the games popularity(since the game is well known for illegal and adult contents) but they also believe that it could also start a new age to GTA: Chinatown Wars making the game suitable for kids. All the themes included in previous versions of GTA(including drugs use and dealing, murder and prostitution) will be added in this one too. It is surprising that Nintendo allow such contents, but Gamers are happy to play their favorite game in DS consoles. Already, the GTA:Chinatown wars game struck the market with heavy profits in the rivals of DS consoles.
It is believed that GTA’s release will shape borders of Nintendo’s market. GTA:Chinatown is expected to be released in early months of 2009, Hope that GTA’s success can balance the Nintendo’s losses in Wii Music. Fans of Nintendo consoles are also expecting releases such as GTA:Chinatown Wars to be continued by Nintendo. Several Gamers think that games like Sim City are planned to be released by Nintendo, and hope that Nintendo will do so.
One of the largest issues, currently, that many fans have with Nintendo is this total lack of availability for many of their favorite games on Nintendo platforms. The release of GTA:Chinatown Wars on the DS is sure to be a new milestone for Nintendo, and most hope it is a sign of things to come.
