Oprah’s Favorite Holiday Gifts 2008: 12 Dates of Christmas
Based on the concept presented in Oprah’s Favorite Holiday Gifts 2008: 12 Dates of Christmas, here are five thrift date night ideas for the holidays.
Christmas Tree Date Night
Go shopping for a Christmas tree at night, as a couple. Make up a batch of hot chocolate using milk not water to make it extra creamy. Pour it into a thermos and bring along two mugs. Visit your favorite Christmas tree lot that is open at night. Take a leisurely walk through the trees and find one you both like. After loading the tree on the car, sit together inside and enjoy each other’s company and some hot chocolate. This inexpensive date will cost you gas money, the price of the tree and under $1 to make two cups of creamy cocoa.
Tree Lighting Ceremony
Find a tree lighting ceremony in your town or city. Tree lighting ceremonies take place at night, are free. Candle holding and caroling are usually included in the tree lighting event. Enjoy the winter weather together.
Ornament Painting Party
Purchase or make some cheap ceramic ornaments. Cook up some of your favorite finger foods, a hearty soup or stew, and some chocolate fondue. Paint the ornaments by candle light, just the two of you, in the kitchen.
Decorate the bedroom with some romantic ideas.
Take your love ice skating, at an indoor rink or outdoors if the ice is safe. Bundle up and enjoy a lot of laughter and hand holding. Return home to share your favorite warm beverage, whether it’s hot tea, hot chocolate, or a warming brandy. Serve chocolate-covered strawberries that you made yourself.
Clear the room, place yoga mats on the floor, change into comfortable clothing and practice some yoga together. Or head out to a drop-in partner yoga or Hatha yoga in your area. You will both feel renewed and relaxed. For At home, teach your partner some yoga positions, or put in your favorite yoga DVD. Some cable companies also have free yoga classes on-demand, or you can find some online. Give each other a short, 10-minute massage after the yoga.
