Hank Paulson has it wrong again. He has an insurmountable need to support the Goldman Sachs growth and greed based economic model he has lived with his entire adult life. Now he seeks to bolster consumer debt when the economy sings out for slow growth and limited leverage. Let the citizenry pay some bills, relearn how to save and invest in meaningful production.
Mr. Obama should not temper the future with centrist lies. We are not undergoing a failure but an extreme adjustment due to years of faulty thinking, unbridled greed and a philosophy of unsustainable growth. If the new leadership needs to speak the truth they should accentuate new models of industry. We as a society cannot survive on a capital base of financial finagling, service sector employment and an unattractive mercantile fundament. Basically, we need to get back to work. The core of our problems are not centered in the false hopes of a expanding housing sector but in the extended history of trade deficit. We as a nation to do not make shit. We borrow money to import Asian crap and fill our lives with dubious product and the burden of debt. I cannot believe we are so stupid.
If I were Mr. Obama I would become an industrial Taliban. Explode the bad models, return to fundamentals, make society productive and restorative. Naturally, needs outweigh frivolous wants and we are returning to this center. Let the lazy millionaires roll up their sleeves and climb aback a tractor, press out something we actually need or think up new directions and paths to a satisfying future.
We are at the beginning and should enjoy our first steps into the future. Mr. Obama doesn’t matter, he needs to stand aside and the let nation form our destiny.
Economy is a living, breathing animal. It exists in a world of its own. Two hundred and fifty years ago Adam Smith spoke of the invisible hand and it guides us to this day. We suffer for our mistakes and go where we must go but the natural wisdom of survival will sustain us. The frat boy mentality of supposed team play execution has enriched a few and failed us all. Look at the dip shits that run the automotive industry. They would not survive flipping burgers at the local McDonald’s.
Will we learn a lesson? I doubt it. Our appetites are overpowering and will always lead us to our demise. Enjoy this short time of wisdom, live in the world of innovation and wish for easy money and the lap of luxury.
George and Laura are leaving the land at Crawford. We should make it a monument of false promise and a touch point for the future. I do not place blame. In an ideal world all of our heads would rest in our laps.
