Going to a new place is always exciting. If you have a sense of adventure that is well and intact, then there will hardly be anything that could ruin your vacation for you. However, adventurous or not, the spirit is kind of dampened when you hie off to a far away place and you forgot to bring something with you that you can’t very easily get anywhere else.
Madrid is a wonderful place. If you’re going there, it would be a shame to mar your Madrid travel experience only because you forgot to pack a few necessary things. To avoid that, here are a few things you will probably need for your trip to Madrid travel plans.
Of course, bringing your passport, visa (if needed), credit cards, maps, etc. with you is a requisite. You also should not be reminded to bring a complete set of toiletries (bringing two of each item may be a good idea).
What clothes to bring with you largely depends on what time of the year you will be visiting Madrid. When you will be visiting during the summer months of June, July, and August, pack mostly shirts and other loose tops in cotton or other lightweight materials. Bring also a cap or hat and sunglasses that will provide necessary protection against the punishing heat of the sun for your head and eyes. However, if you will be going to the seaside or mountain regions, where it still tends to be cool even in summer, you may still need a light jacket or a sweater. During the winter months, you will probably need an overcoat and gloves as it tends to be really cold and windy, especially in Central Spain.
Unlike in coastal towns, wearing shorts and sandals is not very common in Madrid, although it is not exactly frowned upon either, particularly if you are tourist. If a visit to churches will be part of your Madrid travel itinerary, you may want to pack long skirts or pants, as you may be denied entrance if you are wearing shorts or mini skirts. If you are going to be doing a lot of walking, it is best to wear comfortable shoes. For nights out, ladies may wear high-heeled shoes, while men may wear leather sandals or slip-ons.
Madrid is a major city and Madrileños are a fashionable lot. Thus, ladies may also opt for printed skirts worn with halter tops. Men, on other hand, can wear linen shorts paired with short-sleeved shirts or printed T-shirts.
Carry your money and other precious items with you in a waist bag for security purposes. Also make it a point to bring an umbrella, especially when traveling from November to late February when occasional showers are a possibility.
Aside from your usual toiletry items, also always remember to bring with you sunscreen, after-sun creams, insect repellant, and a complete first aid kit, with emphasis on medication for allergies, motion sickness, and diarrhea, especially if your Madrid travel plans include sampling the numerous gastronomic delights available.
Armed with this essential packing list, it is a certainty that you will be able to conquer Madrid in style. Enjoy the Madrid travel experience!
