The following Philadelphia police blotter is a compilation of the police activity in Philadelphia from January 20-21, 2009.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Leon Fleetwood in the murder of a 22-year-old man in West Philadelphia. The Philadelphia police said in a press release that Fleetwood is a suspect in the murder of Khalif Bradford who was found shot outside his home at Holden Street near Powellton Avenue on Tuesday, January 6. According to the police, the shooting occurred at approximately 5:28 p.m. The victim was taken to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital where he was pronounced dead about twenty minutes later.
Police say that Fleetwood is known to frequent the Busti Housing Projects. The Busti Housing Project is one of the city’s older public housing projects and has been the scene of violent incidents in the past.
The homicide fugitive team, headed by Police Detectives Walter and Mellon, is handling the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is request to call 215-686-3334 or 686-3335. A recent photo of the suspect has been released to aid in the location of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Police Department has issued warnings to parents and schoolchildren to be on alert for sexual predators. On two separate occasions, school age children were approached or grabbed by unknown persons. Both incidents occurred on January 15, 2009, and police did not indicate whether the cases were related.
At 7:40 a.m. on January 15, a 16-year-old female victim says she was approached by two unknown men who grabbed her. The young woman fought off her attackers and fled. A description of the attackers was provided by police. Both were said to be in their 20s, and both over six feet tall. The victim of the thwarted assault said that one of the men was wearing gloves. The incident occurred at the 2800 block of Levick Street.
The second such incident occurred at approximately 10:50 a.m. of the same day when a ten year old female child was approached by a man saying “crazy things” and attempting to grab her. The potential victim ran into the school. Though the incident happened on the same day, the description provided by the child did not match the two men who attempted to assault the 16-year-old victim. The man described by the 10 year old was a black male in his 30s, a man who, in spite of the cold weather, was wearing “dark blue shorts with nothing on his feet.” The incident occurred in the 100 block of North 49th Street in Philadelphia.
