Golly, you’d think this would be some damned important news, wouldn’t you? On January 15, 2009, the London Times reported the following headline on their timesonline web site: “Barack Obama: it is no longer essential to kill Osama bin Laden.” So how did this headline miss getting well broadcast in American media? I thought getting bin-Laden was priority number one from day one, and all that rot? (see the attached link in the resources section)
The story goes on to quote our esteemed new President, who says, “My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him,” and “But if we have so tightened the noose that he’s in a cave somewhere and can’t even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America.” Say what? You have got to be kidding me!
As the timesonline reports, “As recently as October 7, in a presidential debate, Mr Obama said: “We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.” So as a candidate who continually ran his mouth about how he would get bin-Laden, and who continually defamed and criticized Bush for not getting bin-Laden, now that he’s our Fearful Leader he’s singing a different tune? Hmmm. . . .
So for the nearly two years Obama spent running for President he was attacking Bush for taking the exact same position Obama now holds? So Obama is a hypocrite, huh? Or does he now know something as President that he didn’t know as the junior Senator from that land of virtue, Illinois? Prolly a little of both, wouldn’t ya say?
So where are the naysayers, uber Left nutballs, radicals and Commies that thought Obama was “new & different?” Hello? Can anyone hear me? Are y’all deaf as well as disingenuous and hypocritical? Is Obama “new & different,” or is he playing politics as usual? Or was he just plain lying to the electorate to get elected?
Everyday thus far on the 7th day of this “new & different” kind of Presidency, I find our new President sounding more like the one that just left office. Obama went on, according to the timesonline to further regale us with his erudite and most excellent political wisdoms. Obama said, our “No 1 priority” was to protect America from further attack, and he added, “I think that we have to so weaken [bin Laden’s] infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function,” the Times reported.
And Mr. Obama closed his wisdoms with “And I’m confident that we can keep them on the run and ensure that they cannot train terrorists to attack our homeland.”
So Obama once again further morphs into George W. Bush. With each passing day we are seeing less of the fancy pants candidate and more of the man who may have grown a little. Ya mean being the actual President ain’t an easy job? Gee, during the campaign you made it look like only an idiot couldn’t pull this off. This is as sweet a turn of events as I could hope for, short of winning the lottery.
So ya mean actually being the President is tougher than pretending to be President? Actually being C-in-C of the largest economy and most powerful nation in the world requires more than lofty rhetoric written by speechwriters? Just being eloquent and having the media lick your ass won’t get it done? I thought all our new President had to do was wish it so and it would be done?
Instead we get more of the same packaged in a shiny new wrapping. For the record, I had no problem with the way it was before the Most Merciful Lord Obama ascended the Throne. As a realist and pragmatist I grasped that finding one man hiding in the Khyber Pass was near impossible, but then I know history and I do not dilute myself in to thinking my personal heroes are anything more than mortal men.
And I know that a man hiding in a cave in Afghanistan, looking up in the air for that dreaded Predator drone armed with Hellfire missiles, ain’t doing nothing but clenching his butt cheeks in a permanent state of tension. And by the way, I personally agree totally with President’s Bush and Obama that capturing or killing bin-Laden would be nice, but not necessary to still achieve our ends. You’d think them there big brained peeps would have come to that conclusion as well, what with them smarts they keep telling me they have – forward thinking, and all that
So he can’t walk on water like the original Messiah? Who’d a figured? Ya know, someone might wanna clue His Eminence into this fact. I’d sure hate to see his head disappear beneath the waves of Lake Michigan as he tried and failed that walking on water thing. My, that would be a shame, huh?
