Mark Tedder is in Bejing, China this week to lead worship. Just two weeks ago he joined us on our radio program (Radio Envoy heard at http://www.envoytown.com) to discuss and kick off the preview of our Radio Envoy International Network program Envoy Café. The program is geared to promote songwriters who are music missionaries either home or abroad, we deal with the songwriting creative process, the message, and play a few songs in the studio and discuss the heart of worship and the true purpose of music.
Mind-Hands and Voice
Tedder and wife Carrie are international musicians and worship leaders who does for worship leaders and musicians what Envoy Creative hopes to do with media pros altogether- unite, train, collaborate and send out. For starters Tedder and family have a ministry outreach called Worship Planet and the name lays the whole thing out for everyone to experience. (Go to worshiplanet.org) In a live recording and film/DVD Tedder unveils The Door a beautiful piece with an international band that does something that is forbidden in the Forbidden City-put Christ first in all out worship; document it, and then distribute the results. By all accounts this is a pioneering effort of a recorded piece being released in and out of China that was recorded there.
Motive, Approach and Prayer
The motive and the approach is a great example of what the purpose of the gifts and talents of not only Tedder, but the Worship Planet Band allowing themselves to be used by God through music, through the spoken word, and the prayer language of song. The quality level is raised based on the obedience of the Psalmist and it translates to being used for God’s purpose. This comes across in Tedder’s demeanor, humility, and walking out in a relationship allows for a mind and heart experience for the audience and the listener.
Tedder explains the significance of the theme of the door in this project: “In China, no matter what kind of dwelling, shack or the most repulsive, disgusting building, the door is symbolic as the place of honor where people are welcome to enter ones home. There is a significance that doors must be built inches above the ground. The superstition is that the door is higher so the evil spirits cannot enter the home.”
