The major problems in finding balance in college centers around the fact that there are so many things to do and see. You attention is pulled in so many different directions. You want to go here and do that and with this person or that person. Sometimes it’s hard to find balance in college if we ever in fact understand what that is.
Initially there are six areas in life to set goals in and they are the mental, physical, social, career, family and the spiritual. When you set goals in all six areas you begin to establish balance in your life. Then same principles should apply when you are in college. Certainly this is not always possible while in college because your studying becomes first priority in a lot of cases. You want to succeed and receive good grades. Therefore you should have goals in the other areas of life even if you are out of balance, even if you don’t spend as much time in these other areas as you would like. This will eventually allow you to establish balance in life to a much greater degree than you would have had you not utilized these principles.
First thing you want to do is college is establish a study time that is convenient and consistent every day. Don’t get involved in too many activities but just enough to keep you in touch socially with other friends and this way you stay involved with the things that are going on and about the campus.
Sometimes there is a tendency to put your family aside when you go away to college. Not always I know individuals that keep in contact on a regular basis with their family and then there are others that don’t for whatever reason unless they need money or something else.
Understanding who you are, and where you came from and what your purpose is calls for you to stay spiritually in touch with your creator and establish and develop your spiritual bonds and ties with the almighty God. This is the most important part out establishing balance because it is the foundational piece upon which all the other areas of life rest upon. Those other areas develop from the spiritual. Find yourself a place of worship.
