Good deeds come in different shapes, sizes, form, and it could happen anytime to anyone almost anywhere. There are lots of good deeds being done everyday but why do you think we do good deeds? Let me share to you my opinion on why we do so.
Let me try to separate the topic depending on how it could be performed. When you see someone in need at the spur of the moment and at the least time you’d expect such as accidents, what makes you go ahead and give a little of your time to help out that person in need? It could be that you just can’t neglect someone in need, or you are really passionate and concerned with the well-being of others, and to a few, who knows it could just be to show off. Well, some would even do it because it’s their job. We won’t really know if they really did it out of passion or just because they have to.
What if you see something that is wrong and could ultimately bring harm to someone else? Let’s say you saw someone selling illegal to minors. Why would you go into trouble to report it? It could be that you are concerned about that young person or even think about the welfare of anyone who would have been in the same situation if it happens to someone else. You could also think about the one who sells so that he/she would at least feel responsibility for what he/she is doing.
Good deeds may also happen within you. Even simple stuff such as being honest even if you know that people will get mad at you or you’ll lose money or something else that’s important if you tell the truth. And if you’ll tell the truth, why would you do it in the first place even if you know you’re going to lose a lot? It could be to set yourself free or be responsible and give due to whom it’s supposed to be.
If you are being offered something that you really want but you know it came from something bad. You may have been waiting for it for years but what do you think could make not want to accept it? You could feel bad about the means on how it was acquired.
One of the more common situations is when you pick up a wallet or a bag full of cash. It could be an amount that you can’t get through conventional ways such as working and selling stuff. It could make you a rich man at that point but what do you think would make you want to return that to the owner? Maybe you are really honest or you are concerned about that person who lost it since he/she may need it.
Well, we all differ in our reasons why we do good deeds and we may take a look at them differently. But if you’ll ask me why I do good deeds? Well, my answer is simple. Because it’s the right thing to do and I’m happy about it.
