A lot of people want to modify their cars to look good, make it real fast or just to satisfy what they want. But of course, it’s not applicable to everyone and there are some things that you need to consider if you plan to modify your car.
First thing you have to think of is your budget. Body modifications such as paint, body kits, accessories and the likes would cost you quite a bit especially if you go for the quality brands and services. Making the car really really fast, on the other hand, requires heavy modifications to the engine and mechanisms of the car. Buying powerful engines and custom turbo kits, for example, could cost you thousands of dollars and it is possible that if you tally your expenses, it could even exceed the price of a brand new model of your car.
Stock cars are cars that came off the manufacturer without any modifications or alterations. Most of the car manufacturers, well almost all of them, would offer warranty for the car. But a lot of them would say that they would only honor the warranty if there are no modifications made on the car especially on the part or parts where there is a problem.
For example, you may heavy modifications to the engine such as enlarged pistons and modified the cylinders then you had complications and the car isn’t running properly. Most likely, your car manufacturer won’t accept the warranty anymore since it’s not their fault that the car behaves that way due of the modifications.
Another thing that you should consider why you shouldn’t modify your car is maintenance. Again, if you modify your car for better performance, especially if you race, the parts would wear easily and you need more frequent maintenance to keep your car running as you intend it to be. That goes the same for tires and fuel. You need to keep on changing tires and bigger engines usually eat more fuel.
One more thing to consider is what the law requires. In different states and in some other countries, heavy car modifications are not allowed and they can’t be used on the streets and it could be impounded if caught.
Well, it’s totally up to you if you want to modify your car. We have different preferences when it comes to our own cars. But think of the bigger picture first before you do so. If you really need to modify your car or if you really want it, think of the pros and cons before you decide. Seek help from professionals as well if you can. If you don’t really need to, then I would suggest that you don’t. Sometimes, simple is better.
