Christmas table centerpieces are one of the easiest things to create yourself. This beautiful red glass ornament and votive centerpiece project is elegant and very inexpensive to make.
For this project, you will need:
– Four three inch or larger glass ball ornaments
– Eight matching clear glass votive holders
– Fine grit sandpaper
– Tack cloth or other soft cloth
– Four paper cups
– Krylon Stained Glass Color in Red
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil
– Krylon Webbing Spray in Silver Shiver
– Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
– Sheet of aluminum foil
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
– Four red votive candles
– Newspaper
Cover your work area with a large amount of old newspaper. Remove the hanging caps from four three inch or larger sized glass ball ornaments. Set the hanging caps aside, as they will be reinserted later in the project. Gently sand each of the glass ball ornaments plus each of the eight matching clear glass votive holders with fine grit sandpaper. (This does not have to be too much, but rather just enough to remove the sheen from the surface of the glass.) Wipe any dust away from the glass with a tack cloth or other soft cloth.
Turn each of the glass ball ornaments upside down in a paper cup. Spray paint each of the ornaments with an even coat of Krylon Stained Glass Color in Red. Allow the ornaments to dry for three to four hours or overnight.
Turn each of the eight glass votive holders upside down on the work area. Spray the outside of each votive with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for two to three hours. Spray the candleholders with Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil. Let the paint cure for an hour before adding a second coat. Dry for an additional three to four hours. Spray each of the votive holders with an even amount of Krylon Webbing Spray in Silver Shimmer. Dry overnight.
Scrunch a piece of aluminum foil up into a ball. Unfold the foil. Hold a can of Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil five to six inches above the foil. Immediately dab the paint on the aluminum onto the red painted ornaments. (This should transfer a speckled pattern onto the ornaments.) Continue until you have reached a desired pattern. Dry for three to four hours.
Coat both the ornaments and the votive holders in Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight. Reinstall the hanging cap into each of the ball ornaments and secure with a dot of hot glue. Cool completely.
Set all eight votive holders in a line on your dinner table. Alternate one upside down painted ornament and one red votive candle throughout the centerpiece.
