Isla Fisher is probably known by most as the luscious arm candy of funny man Sacha Baron Cohen, but she’s really attempting to break out on her own as America’s newest favorite redhead in a romantic comedy.
She’s a stunning beauty with a gorgeous smile, and with the long, wavy red hair she dons for her first lead role in ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’, she looks like she could be the long-lost sister of Amy Adams and Debra Messing. But don’t start comparing her to anyone just yet; the gorgeous Isla Fisher (her name is pronounced “Eye-La”) is a unique beauty with a unique past.
Her parents were both Scottish, but she was born in the Middle East and raised in Australia, where she started starring in TV commercials and television shows at a young age. Her first role in the U.S. was that of Mary Jane in the Scooby Doo movie, and up until now she has been best known here for her psychotic role in ‘The Wedding Crashers’.
It’s no wonder she ended falling for funny man Sacha Baron Cohen, because she has stated that she’s a bit of a clown herself, having learned how to make it in the funny business at a Parisian school renowned for teaching students how to properly clown around. She definitely has plenty of opportunity to do so in ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’, because Americans need an excuse to laugh at spending big. However, it’s going to be very hard not to be envious of a character that gets to don so much couture.
Her film is based on a best-selling novel, and Isla Fisher has penned a few best sellers herself. She was seventeen years old when she was starring on an Australian soap opera and wrote ‘Bewitched’ and ‘Seduced by Fame’. So with a famous husband who’s also funny and two novels of her own, there are a lot of interesting paths her career could take. In fact, she’s even started penning a few scripts for some funny flicks.
But for now the intelligent actress is focusing on becoming a beloved leading funny woman, and insists that she’s nothing like her character. She is a mom, after all, and, like many mothers, she prefers the thriftier side of the shopping world, considering Michelle Obama to be a great fashion icon. Despite her real-life style not being as over-the-top as that of her character, it will be interesting to see if Isla learns any fashion lessons from her film, a la Ann Hathaway in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. Who knows? This red hot redhead could end up being a red carpet icon.
