For months I had been seeking a way to scent my home easily and effectively. I’m not a big fan of candles unless I know I’m going to be in the room with them, and I won’t light any candles if kids are around. I tried sprays but the scent from those only lasts for 20 minutes at best. I also tried plug ins but I found that after a few days the scent was hardly noticeable.
Then I went to a PartyLite candle party expecting to learn more about candles and that is where I was first introduced to the idea of a Reed Diffuser. A Reed Diffuser is a scent product that spreads scent like a candle but has no flame. It is made up of three things: a bottle, reeds and a liquid scent. You pour the liquid scent into the bottle. You then dip the reeds in on one side for a minute before flipping them and putting the other end in. The reeds soak up the scent and send it through the room.
Reed Diffusers come in many shapes and sizes. I didn’t end up buying one at the PartyLite party because they were $40 and up. I did end up purchasing one for my sister since at the end they offered the diffuser for only $20. This was a large glass bottle that looked nice but was nothing special. For Christmas I received a Mosaic Reed Diffuser which is nice and decorative for my living room. I also received a small glass bottle diffuser that works great in my bathroom. Both of these diffusers cost way less than the $40 PartyLite sells there’s for. The point is, don’t go spending $40 on this product since you can buy them from many different places including Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. Perhaps you will end up spending more money to get a decorative one, but if you just want a simple diffuser you can get it for as low as $10.
Reed Diffusers keep the scent going, even when you aren’t in the room. Unlike a candle which I only light while I’m in the room, Reed Diffusers are constantly sending their scent around the room. When I come home and enter my living room, the lavender smell is the first thing I notice even from across the room. Everytime I go in the bathroom I notice the great garden smell of my other diffuser. Since these are my first diffusers, I read some information online at ReedDiffusers.org. Here I learned that it is perfectly acceptable to have a different scent in every room so that you can walk from scent to scent throughout your house. Now I can’t wait to get a different scent for my bedroom and maybe even one for my kitchen!
Once the Reed Diffuser is empty, it’s still useable! When a candle burns to the bottom, you have to throw it out. With Reed Diffusers you don’t have this problem. The bottle can be reused for as long as you want. The liquid in the diffuser is supposed to last for 3-4 months depending on how much you put in. Once you run out of the liquid, you can buy refills of any scents you like as well as new reeds in bulk. Buying scents and reeds in bulk is definitely cheaper than buying a new candle everytime it burns out.
Reed Diffusers are safer than candles. There is no flame so there is no worry of a fire starting if someone knocks over your reed diffuser. That is the biggest concern of most home owners and the reason why i don’t light candles unless I’m in the room to keep an eye on it. Because there is no flame, you can put the Reed Diffuser anywhere. You don’t have to worry if it’s close to a curtain or near a stuffed animal because there is no worry that anything will catch on fire. I still make sure the actual reeds don’t touch anything, but I don’t have to keep it a mile away from paper. The biggest problem you might have with a diffuser is if it gets knocked over and the liquid spills, but since you can put it anywhere you want, you can try to put it in a safe location where it won’t get knocked easily.
Reed Diffusers always look nice. Did you ever have a nifty candle that you didn’t want to burn because then it would look ugly? When a candle burns, it loses it’s shape and decoration so that eventually it’s a big melted mess. Reed Diffusers don’t have that problem. The bottle stays the same, as long as you don’t break it and the reeds look nice for the whole time they are in use.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the smell of my rooms now that I have Reed Diffusers! I hardly ever find myself needing to spray anything, even after we cook something stinky in the kitchen. The Reed Diffusers I have are constantly letting off a nice scent that I notice every time I walk into the room. The scents are powerful enough to block out other bad smells without blocking out all smells (i.e. it won’t ruin your dinner). Best of all, there is no need to blow them out and have that 5 minutes where the room smells of smoke from the candle. Whether you have kids or not, Reed Diffusers are a safe and effective way to make your home smell nice.
