My daughter has been sick with the flu for about a week now, so I knew it was only a matter of time before I came down sick too. Unfortunately, it couldn’t wait for the weekend and I found myself sick when I still had to get up for work in the morning.
That’s why, on my way to work today, I ended up picking up a package of Tylenol Severe Cold Multi-Symptom.
When I bought the package of Tylenol, I had most of the symptoms listed on the box. I had the stuffy nose, sore throat and cough. The only things I didn’t have (yet at least) were the fever and chest congestion.
Overall, the product works pretty well but isn’t the best cold medicine I’ve ever purchased either.
I’ll start with what I liked about this medicine.
First, it works fast. I took two of the Tylenol Severe Cold at about 7:30 this morning and, by 8, my sore throat was gone and I wasn’t coughing as much. I also didn’t seem to have quite as many aches and pains as I had before I took it.
The Tylenol Severe Cold also does last for some time. The box indicates it’ll last for only around 4 hours. But, the dose I took before work lasted the entire day. I didn’t have to taken any more until about dinner time.
The product, however, didn’t seem to do a whole lot for my nasal congestion. In fact, I think it was actually a bit worse considering I had to blow my nose every couple of minutes. And, while my sore throat was gone, I did end up with a bit of a headache shortly after taking this.
One other thing I noticed after taking this drug is how tired I was. This is supposed to be the day-time formula of the medicine but, an hour after taking it; I was ready to lie down for a nap and walked around in a daze most of the day. Surprisingly, it didn’t affect me when I was driving. To be fair, this could have also been caused from the flu bug too considering my sore throat kept me up a good part of the night.
My only other real complaint about this product is more of a personal one; the size of the tablets you are expected to take. I have a hard time swallowing pills and, as you can imagine, having a sore throat doesn’t help with that. So, opening the packet and seeing I was supposed take the two giant pills was a bit intimidating.
The Tylenol Severe Cold Multi-Symptom did help me enough to allow me to get through my work day so I won’t say they are a waste of money. But, they also didn’t work as well as I hoped they would. Because of that, I will say I was disappointed in my purchase.
