Situated on the South Western Coast of Florida, the City of Sarasota has much more to offer a Visitor than just Sandy Beaches. Sarasota Jungle Gardens – Visitors get the opportunity to walk Jungle Trails and see wildlife and Tropical vegetation in a natural setting. A number of shows are available, including “Birds of Prey Exhibition” “Birds of the Rainforest” and “Reptile Encounter”. Many of the Animals in the Sarasota Jungle Gardens have been rescued or nursed back to health. Open 9AM to 5PM daily, Sarasota Jungle gardens are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Sarasota Classic Car Museum – Featuring a Mercedes once owned by John Lennon and a Mini Cooper owned by Paul McCartney, The Sarasota Classic Car Museum offers over 100 unique Cars, and a 60,000 square foot facility that occupies 4 acres of space. They have a Collectibles Shop that carries Gas Station Artifacts, Antique Signs and posters, and various collectible literature. The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is open 9AM to 6PM daily, closed on Christmas.
Selby Botanical Gardens – Offering a 9.5 acre home for 20,000 plants, 6,000 Orchids and 7 Greenhouses, Selby Botanical Gardens is a great stop for a Visitor in Sarasota. The Christy Payne Mansion here is on the list of Natural Historic Places, and hosts exhibitions of Botanical Art and Photography. Also featuring a Butterfly Garden, Bamboo Garden, Mangrove Walkway, and a Koi Pond.
G.Wiz (GulfCoast Wonder & Imagination Zone) – A Sarasota landmark dedicated to education, G.Wiz is also a great deal of fun to visit. Encompassing 33,000 square feet of space, G.Wiz has a fascinating array of Science and Technology Exhibits. ExploraZone is all about Magnetism, Light and Electricity, and a visitor can make a Lightning Bolt at a Plasma Ball. At Tech Zone, a visitor can make an animated video or design and launch an Engineered Paper Airplane.
Florida Ever-Glides – This Sarasota attraction is possibly one of the greatest ideas ever. Florida Ever-Glides offers 3 different tours of Sarasota while riding a Segway Personal Transporter. Prior to the tours an orientation and instruction on how to ride a Segway is given, and most people get the hang of them in a few minutes.
