I have searched all over the place for a spicy chicken breast filet that tastes like the one you would buy at Wendy’s fast food chain. I once found similar filets at the grocery store and after trying them out and really liking them found that they were no longer available at the store. When I saw the ad in the Schwan’s catalogue I just had to give the Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filet a try.
What are Schwan’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets? Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets are white meat chicken breast filets that have been breaded in a tangy and crunchy breading.
What do Schwan’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets Taste Like? These filets taste just like the Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich filet. They are crispy and crunchy and very flavorful. The breading is not really hot, but it does have a tangy flavor with a bit of a kick. The chicken is very white and flaky. The filets cook up very crunchy on the outside and juicy and tender in the middle.
How do you cook Schwan’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets? Schwan’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets can be cooked one of three different ways. You can cook them in the oven for the healthiest and best result. They should be baked in a 400 degree oven for about 22 minutes and then broiled for an additional minute for added crunch.
You can also deep fry the Spicy filets in preheated oil that has been heated to 360 degrees. They must be fried for about 4.5 minutes or a bit longer for added crunch. Unfortunately, the deep fry method is not the healthiest method although it does taste very good.
Finally, the Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets can be cooked in the microwave. This method requires the filet to be wrapped in a paper towel and cooked on medium heat for two minutes, flipped over and cooked an additional two minutes. Although the filet is not really crunchy out of the microwave, it is not soggy either and still tastes really juicy.
What do Schwan’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets Cost? The filets cost about $17 for 8 filets or servings. This works out to just a little bit more than $2 per filet which isn’t the best price but not the worst either. The Spicy chicken sandwich at Wendy’s can be purchased for about $3.59 so $2 per filet seems comparable when you consider the cost of a bun, lettuce, and tomato.
Nutrition Information: Each Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filet has 230 calories before it is cooked and 10 grams of fat. If baked in the oven or cooked in the microwave then these figures will not change. However, if you choose to deep fry the filet then the fat and calorie content will increase significantly.
Basic Ingredients: The filets are made out of boneless skinless chicken breast with rib meat. Other ingredients include but are not limited to water, paprika, eggs, hot sauce, milk, garlic, salt, and yellow corn flour.
Overall Rating: Overall, I was very satisfied with the Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets from Schwan’s. They cook very nicely and they taste absolutely great. They are not too spicy but they are not bland either. The price is a little bit high for the 8 filets which is why I am giving this product 4.5 stars rather than 5. I hate to rate a product based on price because the price plays no part in the flavor, but these days Americans are price conscious so this must be taken into consideration.
I would definitely recommend the Schwan’s Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast Filets to friends, family, and anyone who like a crispy flavorful piece of chicken. The filets are great for sandwiches, cut up in salads, or even just plain like a chicken tender. They make a great lunch, snack, or main dish for dinner.
