Recently, I was searching on the PETA website and I noticed a blog posting about a new web service called SocialVibe. SocialVibe allows users of popular social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace to turn there profiles into “fundraising machines” just by adding a badge to the profile. The service doesn’t cost you or your friends anything as it is paid for by advertisers. I was intrigued, so I decided to sign up.With
Signing up was a quick and easy process. After providing some basic information like my name, sex, and e-mail address I was all set-up. After signing up for the SocialVibe service, you need to pick a sponsor. This sponsor will provide the advertising that pays for the contributions to your charity of choice. Some sponsors provide 3 or 5 times the normal amount of points….I picked one of these sponsors because more points means more money for charity. When you are picking your SocialVibe sponsor, you can also pick which charity will receive contributions for your efforts. I picked PETA, but there are many health, animal, and human justice organizations to choose from. It is also good to know that you can change your sponsor or your charity at any time, so as your tastes change, SocialVibe can change with you.
Once you have your account all set up on the SocialVibe website, you are ready to post your SocialVibe badge to your profile on your favorite social networking site and begin raising money for your charity of choice. It is easy to add your badge to your profile…just click the link on the SocialVibe website for your favorite social networking site, and you will be directed there to add your badge. Once your badge is on your profile, you are done. Now, every time someone looks at your profile page and your badge is loaded, you will earn points on SocialVibe. These SocialVibe points are translated into real donations to your charity at the end of each calendar quarter. The donations can add up quickly…over $20,000 has been donated to PETA by people just like me using SocialVibe, and the amount continues to grow.
If you are an active user of Facebook or MySpace, you should definitely consider signing up for the SocialVibe service. It doesn’t cost you anything, and the SocialVibe badge that is placed on your profile is small and most people probably won’t even notice it. With SocialVibe, every time someone looks at your profile, you will be raising money for your favorite charity.
