Solar Christmas lights are something that, until recently, many of us had never even thought of. The prices of electricity added to the gas prices that many of us see on our electricity bills have made many of us rethink putting up as many Christmas lights this year. With solar Christmas lights however, we can put up just as many, if not more lights than normal and still have an electricity bill that will be less than normal. Solar electricity has caught on in the recent years and is something that we should all truly consider with our resources continuing to fail as they have been recently. There are many different options with solar Christmas lights that are available.
Factory solar Christmas lights – You can now buy Christmas lights that are completely solar and self dependent upon themselves. They are a little harder to find than some other types of solar Christmas lights and can be more expensive. They also pay for themselves after one year of using them for an average of a month. This saves approximately $200 in electricity and therefore just one year of use can pay for a few sets of the lights.
Solar yard plugs – I have seen this product in the past on various websites as well as at home depot at one time, but am unsure where to find them at right now. It is a plug that has a solar panel on the top of it and you can plug two-four items into it at a time as long as it doesn’t go over a certain amount of voltage. These are great for people who love to decorate their yard during the Holiday season and can save money as well.
Self-made solar lights – Some people, my husband included, decided to manufacture their own way of making solar Christmas lights this year. The solar walkway lights that you can find almost anywhere now days can be taken apart and turned into a homemade plug much like the solar yard plugs mentioned above. This is a little bit complex but my husband was able to find a diagram online to help him with it.
Solar lights are definitely a thing of the future and will continue gaining popularity because of the ease and worry free use of them. They save money, electricity, resources, and are eco-friendly. They can be used again and again each year and pay for themselves after just one season of use.
You can find different kinds of solar lights on eBay, Amazon, Garden Ridge, and at some Home Depot stores. Walmart, K-Mart, Target, Roses, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Lowes sometimes have them as well, but unless you are in a bigger city they may not carry them, so you may want to call ahead to save a trip. Running a Yahoo, Google, or MSN search can also help you find them for great prices, just be careful to pay attention to shipping charges.
