Spring Fashion Trends 2009: Men’s Fashion

by yup tab

Spring Fashion Trends for men are bold, sophisticated and relaxed. The trends in mens fashion tend to move so slowly that they seem at times to be standing still. Not this season. In Spring of 2009 look for more boldness and more color. The major trends seem to be in suits and within color. Gone are the days of monochromatic suits and matching ties. I have listed what I see as the top 5 fashion trends for men in Spring of 2009.

1-Suit Style

No more gray on gray. Expect more blues and black is of course here to stay. The big change will be seen in tailoring. We are looking for suits with more of a full cut and away from that skinny suit that made normal sized men look fat and skinny men look anorexic. These suits will focus on real men and be designed for comfort as well as style. Hounds tooth, herringbone and pinstripes will be big.

2-V-Necks

The big trend to watch in shirts and sweaters is going to be the V-neck. Expect to see it on everything from sweaters to polos, t-shirts to sweatshirts. Do not expect to see it very often on formal attire. For most of the country this will take the form of light to medium weight sweaters. However the “V” in the V-neck is going to be big. As in deeply cut. You could layer it but that sort of defeats the purpose.

3-Bolder Colors

The trend for Spring Fashion 2009 is going to be focused on bold and bright colors and styles. Look for large prints and geometric shapes. When you walk into a room people are going to notice. The colors are destined to be along the lines of bright blues and greens with a bit of bright pink here and there. Just a hint from a woman: avoid the pink.

4-Jackets

The jacket is going to be a must have in Spring and not because it’s cold. It’s the new “IT” item of the season. But not just any old jacket, oh no. It has to be a tailored and fitted dinner type jacket or a slightly oversized suit jacket. Think Miami Vice from the 1980’s without the pastels. And you still have to wear socks.

5-Relaxed Tuxedo

I’m not kidding about this one, blame James Bond. The final big trend to watch for mens Spring Fashion in 2009 is going to be the relaxed tuxedo in place of a suit. It looks rugged yet formal and women love it. That is reason enough for it to be a big deal.

6-Tie Bars

These are hot and getting hotter. The tie bar is of course a bar that holds your tie in place but it can and should be used as a showcase for your individual style. In Spring of 2009 the trend is towards more personal expression and for the tie bar itself to be seen and appreciated. Crystals, gemstones and etchings are all hot this season. Paul Frederick is at the front of this trend and his website is well worth visiting.

7-Scarves

I saved this one for last because I don’t expect it to last past the Spring 2009 Fashion season. Scarves are hot now for both men and women but they tend to be rather girly and most men would do well to avoid this trend and spend their money on tie bars. If you do go in for scarves, the trend is towards bright colors and silk.
