Having unexpected guests stopping by made me hustle to prepare a quick, but delicious meal. I picked up the party size box of Stouffer’s Lasagna with meat and sauce at my local grocer. The cost was $13.97.
The Lasagna came in a red 6 pound box. When you open the box, the lasagna is enclosed in a large aluminum tray with a removable aluminum lid. You preheat your oven to 400 degrees. The box clearly tells you to not go over or under that temperature. Once the oven reaches the desired temperature, you place the frozen tray into the oven. It will remain there for two hours and then another five to ten minutes. Be sure to place the lasagna on a solid baking tray. After two hours, remove it from the oven and remove the lid. Place it back into the oven for five to ten minutes. This will brown up the cheese on top.
Once the lasagna is done remove it and let it set for 15 to 20 minutes. The tray will maintain it’s heat for sometime. The party tray will serve twelve (1 cup each). Carefully cut the pieces into twelve even squares. Remove each square with a small spatula. There are three layers of pasta and three layers of meat and sauce. The top layer is topped off with Mozzarella cheese. There are no preservatives in the meal.
Each serving as 280 calories. There are 90 calories from fat. The percentage on the daily value runs like this. You can serve the Stouffer’s Lasagna with other items or as a meal by itself. If you serve it by itself, I recommend giving two cups per serving. If you serve it with other items, I recommend none starch items. Things like a lettuce salad or a mixture of vegetables work great. It is also advisable to use Parmesan Cheese with the lasagna.
The backside of the party box gives specific instructions on how to prepare the lasagna properly. The letters are large and easy to read. It gives a three step process for getting the lasagna ready.
Stouffer’s has their own web site that tells you about other meals as well. Stouffer’s got their start in a small coffee shop in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922. They developed frozen entrées in 1954 and haven’t looked back.
The Stouffer’s Lasagna, with meat and sauce, made me appear to be a gourmet cook. It was very tasty and filling. I even had several servings left over that I stored in the refrigerator until two days later. All I had to do was zap it quickly in the microwave and I had my lunch. I am sure that I will try other items by the Stouffer company in the near future. I purchased this item at an IGA food store. However, I have since seen them at Shop and Save and even Walmart.
One last thing to take note of is the clean up. The lasagna didn’t stick to the pan. This made it easy to get it out and easy to clean up and throw away when the pan was empty. I have seen some lasagna that tastes great but ,sticks to the side of the tray. That didn’t happen with Stouffer’s. It is a winning combination for an unskilled cook.
