Super Bowl Party Ideas: A Super “Bowl” of Chili

by yup tab

Chili is always a favorite in my house no matter if it is the first pre-season game or the Super Bowl. It is also a great way to warm up guests when then come in out of the chilly weather during Super Bowl season. With this easy recipe and variations you can serve many of your guests without having to spend hours in the kitchen and still have a great assortment of dishes on a budget.

To make your chili try this recipe: 8 cans of kidney beans, get 4 dark red and 4 light red. We like to use the organic beans as they are only pennies more and better for you. Add 2 large cans of tomato sauce (my family doesn’t like “chunky” tomatoes in their chili); one bottle of St. Arnold Brown Ale (you can use just about any beer, the other day I was out and just used a can of Budweiser – it works), ground chili peppers, or powder and cumin. I use the seasonings to taste. If you aren’t sure about creating your own seasonings, try using McCormick Chili Seasonings in either original or medium. Cook in your crock pot/slow cooker for 5 hours at least on “low” then let sit to warm. I have also found that this is served best when cooked the day before and then “warmed” in the crock pot starting in the morning on the day of the Super Bowl Party.

Or use your own favorite Chili recipe.

Next provide an assortment of Chili side dishes, such as:

Grill Sausages, hamburger patties or hotdogs on a George Forman Grill. Using this, people can grill their own in just a few minutes. Be sure to include hamburger and hot dog buns and a tray with sliced lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, green peppers and cheese. Now your guest can create their own chili burger, chili dog or chili sausage. By including all the condiments, guests can even grill the onions and peppers to taste.

Cornbread: In just minutes you can create delicious corn bread with either Martha White of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix.

Tortilla Chips

Red Hot Sauce

Shredded Cheese, Finely Chopped Onions and Sour Cream and your guests can add to their bowl of chili – southern style and according to their desire. My son does chips and cheese and is in heaven.

Set everything up at stations. You will have a Super “bowl” chili station, super “bowl” grill station and super “bowl” southern style chili with all the fixin’s station. Now you are out of the kitchen to enjoy the game and your guests and your guests have several snacking or meal choices to choose from.

The best thing about this super BOWL party idea are: it doesn’t have to cost much, it is easy to clean up and provides several different dishes all around one main dish. Using the slow cooker and stations, your guest can have what they want and when they want it, making you a host with the most during your next Super Bowl party.
