The New Year’s Eve party is at your house. What supplies do you need to throw a responsible party? What types of food supplies should be bought and served? What are some good party games? Who supplies rides home? Is that really necessary? How many people should I invite? What type of party should this be?
That’s a lot of questions!
Before getting too overwhelmed remember the first rule of any party is, “Keep it simple”. The hostess should enjoy the New Years Eve party as much as the guests, it won’t do to be scrambling for supplies and rides home for the intoxicated while everyone else is having that stroke of midnight kiss. That being said, here is a list of things you’ll need for a responsible New Years Eve Party.
Invite a small group of guests to the New Years Eve Party. Plan on asking about half as many guests as you can feed. Allow everyone to bring one guest. This makes for a good mix of people and keeps a lid on your supplies cost.
Specify that everyone brings their own alcohol to the party. Alcohol is one of the most expensive supplies for a New Years Eve celebration. No-one expects it to be provided by the host unless that host is fabulously wealthy.
Be certain to have plenty of water available. This is one of the hangover prevention supplies for a New Years Eve party that many forget. Whether it is in pitchers or bottled, your New Years Eve Party guests will appreciate you the next day, if you keep them hydrated.
A New Years Eve party is a great excuse to have high fat, high protein snacks. These are necessary to slow digestion and keep alcohol consumption down. Finally you have a really good excuse to break out the chicken wings and fat-laden cheese dips.
5. Non-alcoholic beverages
There will be people at the New Years Eve Party who don’t drink. Non-alcoholic beverages are inexpensive supplies to have on hand out of common courtesy for the non-drinkers and the designated driver at any New Years Eve Party. Make sure to have a couple bottles of non-alcoholic champagne for the midnight toast as well.
No New Years Eve party is complete without these ear busting party supplies. Party poppers are the coolest of supplies with their sprays of confetti and loud bang. Other noisy supplies include, whistles, blowers, kazoos, and whatever else you can think of. New Years Eve is just about the only time adults can get away with using noisemakers so take advantage and have plenty of these crazy party supplies on hand this New Years Eve.
7. Funny hats, antennas, crowns and such
No “adult” New Years Eve party is complete without drunken people making fools of themselves wearing crazy party hats with glitter and feathers galore. Have plenty of these on hand as well as crazy hair ties for the ladies and whatever other party supplies will make guests look like complete and utter fools.
The best and simplest party decoration supplies for New Years Eve are balloons and streamers, suspended from the ceiling. Hanging multiple balloons and streamers gives the illusion that they are exploding around guests and falling from the ceiling.
9. Party Games
New Years Eve party guests are generally too inebriated to remember their own names, let alone complicated party game rules. I suggest simple traditional games everyone has knowledge of such as charades, 20 questions, musical chairs or the like. Sound boring? Trust me these can be quite entertaining when played by a bunch of drunk people.
There will be a variety of guests at the New Years Eve party so it is best to have a wide selection of party music. Consider putting some party music CD’s on the party supplies list. These are made specifically for some occasions such as this. They can be found at most party supplies stores as well as department stores.
11. The Basics
For any party, basic paper supplies are essential. For a New Years Eve party you will need plenty of cups, plates, silverware, napkins, bathroom tissue, soap, and paper towels as well as a handy bucket. (Your carpet plus upset stomachs; need I say more?) It might also be wise to have a few basic first aid supplies at a New Years Eve party. People tend to fall down and bump into things a bit when they’ve overindulged.
12. Photo booth
Why have a bunch of people get together and make fools of themselves without adequate photo taking supplies? Don’t count on cell phones. Spring for a photo booth with cheap costume accessories. This will provide great entertainment. Guests get their own instant photos. Plus, the host or hostess can go online and retrieve all the photos from the party.
13. The Designated Driver
Yes, this is absolutely necessary. The law dictates that party hosts are legally responsible for seeing to it that their inebriated party guests are not driving home. Choose a responsible designated driver for the New Years Eve party guests and make sure no-one drives drunk. More than one drink of any kind is legally drunk. The designated driver is therefore the most important of party supplies for the New Years Eve celebration.
