Here’s a list of ten great pop songs of 1972. All of these songs are listed in Billboard’s top selling singles of 1972. Before FM radio became popular with long playing records, AM radio was the choice for millions of Americans. These are all songs that you know by heart, and usually sing out loud when you feel that no one is around to hear.
1. You’re So Vain – Carly Simon
In the background vocals, you can hear Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones.
lyric – ‘…you’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you…’
2. Heart Of Gold – Neil Young
One of my favorite Neil Young songs ever.
lyric – ‘…I wanna live, I wanna give, I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold…’
3. Peaceful Easy Feeling – The Eagles
Pure southern California style.
lyric – ‘…I get a peaceful easy feeling, and I know you won’t let me down…’
4. Day After Day – Badfinger
Features George Harrison on guitar and Leon Russell on Piano.

5. Taxi – Harry Chapin
This song inspired me to drive a cab while in college one summer.
lyric – ‘…well another man might have been angry, and another man might have been hurt, while another man never would have let her go, I stashed the bill in my shirt…’
6. Do It Again – Steely Dan
The first top ten hit for the Dans.
lyric – ‘…wheels turning round and round, get back Jack, do it again…’
7. Alone Again, Naturally – Gilbert O’Sullivan
Sad song that mirrors life.
lyric – ‘…when she passed away, I cried and cried all day, alone again, naturally…’
8. Saturday In The Park – Chicago
Probably the greatest rock band to use a horn section in all their early songs.
lyric – ‘…Saturday in the park, I think it was the Fourth of July…’
9. Rock And Roll Part Two
An instrumental song with the only word being, ‘Hey’. Played at most major sporting events alongside ‘We Will Rock You’.

10. I Can See Clearly Now – Johnny Nash
A great song to hear after three days of rain and intense cloudiness.
lyric – ‘…I can see clearly now, the rain is gone, I can see all obstacles in my way…’
All of these songs belong on your Ipod or MP3 player. Must have songs for any music lovers collection.
